Is that odd roundel accurate?

hairy, no I didn't take mine and there is nothing on it to say who did. When I first saw 1707 it was looking very used at 1 TTS as in those photos I took of it.
Dave, I wouldn't think so. They wore type C roundels and the proportions of the one on 1702 are incorrect.

Thanks Shorty, I thought it looked odd.

Just had a look at the Auster files listed in National Archives Archway. There are 11 files covering 1947-1970 primarilly technical titles. Under 3 Sqn there is a file 'Grants - Territorial Air Force Sqn No 3' 1949 - 57. Lots of other 3 Sqn files but 1970s and later. Must visit the NA and have a look.

It's probably better to resurrect this thread than start a new one . . I'm trying to get a complete set of RNZAF Auster photos to post as a listing elsewhere. I do have some, but lack NZ1703, NZ1705 as '05, and NZ1706. Would appreciate help in finding these - Nev? Marcus? Anyone? So far: NZ1701 - Sold, became ZK-BQL, current NZ1702 - Sold Jun69, became ZK-DBU, current NZ1703 - Cr in bush Eyre River area, Oxford, 20Aug59 NZ1704 - Cr on landing Maungatawhiri 4Dec68 NZ1705 - Sold Abd Australia by tender 8Aug56, became VH-PMG VH-ADS NZ1706 - Cr Papakura 5Dec53. Sold, rebuilt as ZK-BGT, cr Cascade Point, Westland, 27Feb61 NZ1707 - Cr into sea 2mls N of Shelley Beach, Kaipara Harbour, 22Aug66. To MoTAT, then RNZAF Museum at Wigram

Can any one help me with the dimensions of the floats used with the Austers?

Peter - have found prints of '05 on floats, and a shot of '06 in a rather battered state. Will scan them later and post

Just for interest sake the Auster crates were used in 5 hangar at Woodbourne for the TTS servicing phase offices. I remember having my mechanics trade test oral exam in one of them (identifying AGS nuts and bolts!) They provided a division between the TTS half and the storage half.

Great photo Anthony. The finflash seems to be in an odd place compared with the normal positioning on RNZAF aircraft (closer to the rudder and a little further up I'd have thought).
