Apparantely there will be power cuts from 7pm till the end so you won't get to see anything anyway. I would have gone to the supermarket and bought out their stock of bluff oysters and pigged out till I was sick and couldn't feel the end come.

Beagle should have his own doomsday cult, where he makes his followers watch Eastenders and pig out on oysters. haha

Actually Dave, I have cooked chicken livers for dinner with spares for sandwiches tomorrow and the kitchen is a mess. The mrs went to watch tv in the bedroom and said it better be cleaned up before I go to bed.

On a serious note, i have never seen an aurora before, only on television and in photos. When I heard they reckoned there was going to be a good aurora tonight I hoped to see something, so i went out but the sunset was just as normal. Does the aurora happen after the sun has gone down? Like now time?
Every weather and space releated event I ever see advertised turns out a complete fizzer, usualy clouded out. The only time I ever saw anything it was the Space Shuttle pass over.

I just checked again, a normal moonlit night out there. No green and pink flowy things in the sky.

Woke up this morning to the realisation that the world had indeed not ended. Yet another missed opportunity to be involved in something exciting. Now I need to explain to the wife what all those expensive electrical items are in our garage, and why I bought them.... Didnt see anything in the sky either. False hope spread by the media again...

Apparently it hit the northern hemisphere around midnight our time. Its expected to swing south tonight and over the weekend. If the weather stays clear, might see something tonight.
Claiming a sun flare will end the earth is about as ridiculous as claiming the Mayans predicted the end of the world. 2 reasons they couldn't have, when the Mayans made their calendars there was no leap year, so if you remove all the leap years, the world should have ended 7 months ago. second, how could they predict the end of the world thousands of years in the future, but not the Spanish crossing the Atlantic?
Sun flares will interrupt electronics, maybe cause power cuts in extreme scenarios, but ending humanity? i will believe that when it happens.
