Came back from LAX via a more southerly than usual routing a day or so ago (normally get within 20 miles of the pole eastbound) No satcom or GPS for 2 hours north of about 75N, and pretty much no HF reception until we were with 200 miles or so of Murmansk. Usually we have satcom and GPS coverage for the whole way.

Interesting ..two HKG -YVR/SFO returns this week...the flights back normally take us up to 72N but no GPS problems with minimal HF reception difficulties.

I was flying the night the solar flare was supposed to hit, saw nothing at all out of the ordinary, no problems with comms. Apparently the Dunedin crew saw the aurora though.
