Great photos Peter, thanks for these. So, why does the new P-32K have a red nose? It looks rather out of place on such a low visibility scheme.

More likely that its an unairworthy spare. Prob temp fitted while the real one is fixed, paint it bright red and its not likely to be accidentally still on when flown.

Good point, keeping the weather off stuff underneath perhaps.

I'm ver fond of the Orion - speed, sound, style what a machine! They don't make 'em like they used to sonny... Actually, NZ's clutch of designs from that era: C-130, P-3, UH-1H make quite an historical statement.

Peter
Those are awesome photos, thanks for sharing ;D.
I really like the C-130 75th Anniversary paint scheme, something to add to my build later on this year.
Anyone tell me what that round disc type object is just below the windshield (just above the "4")
Thanks
Alan

That's a UV sensor for missile defence, A new addition with the LEP upgrade if I'm not mistaken.

They have had them fitted before, pretty sure it would have been a similar sensor and I take it these new ones would be a later more improved version.

So our Hercules will carry missiles after the upgrade?

missile defence Dave is a device that tells the crew"oh my god, terror, plummeting" that a missile has been launched at them and while the loady is running to the toilet down back, the crew up front are professionally doing their well paid job by pushing buttons and taking evasive manouvers to keep the aircraft safe

I like that Herc in 75th markings, I noticed too that the NZ flag is painted on, like the Aussies and Brits and Canadians do, I hope that's not just part of the 75th dress up and that they keep that little bit of detail on there permanently.
I also like that 757 dressed up in 75th colors, just need Gemini or Dragon to make a special run in 1/400 scale die cast metal for my collection and I'll be happy.
