From this morning's NZ Herald: I read this whilst tutoring the latest SAA Maintenance approvals course. It appears however that specialist expertise in aircraft maintenance is not required in order to evaluate aircraft faults as the Herald makes a big deal out of quoting Tracey Pearson, 47 a Clothing Agent: "Unless there's a reason for them to believe a specific plane has got any specific problem, I dont think they need to treat them all the same" So there you are then, the Herald's expert has spoken... although she isnt too clear on how they are supposed to know there is a specific problem with a specific plane if they dont check them... Thanks for the benefit of your insight Tracey!

Hear hear Bruce! As you know my comment elsewhere was:
God if there is one thing I CANNOT stand it is armchair aviation experts. Members of the public that think they know about aviation/aircraft but in reality know stuff-all. Take for example Tracy Pearson and her stupid comment in the article below. She's a clothing agent. That's right, clothing agent. Not aircraft engineer or expert so maybe Tracy should stick to clothes? And New Zealand Herald, sort out your punctuation in this piece. It is awful!

I don't think she was being asked her opinion as an aviation maintenance expert, she was being asked of her opinion as a disrupted passenger. Her lack of knowledge and understanding of such matters has come to the fore, but it's not the Herald pushing her forward as an aviation expert. You just have to live with the fact that there are numpties in this country that will never understand the situation even if it's potentially catastrophic for themselves. I wonder if the journo had informed her that of the 9 aircraft checked at time of question (best guess estimate on my part) that 6 had been found with the same problem, whether she would cotton onto the idea that if we find a problem with 1 frame, we check the others as a precaution...... I doubt it, and I accept she probably never will.

And TV3s Sunday night6pm news opening with the ATR crack issue and what did they have a large photo of for for the lead item? Two HS748s, albeit in the oldMt Cook Airlines livery. Last night Hilary Barry called the ATRs ATTs. For gawds sake.
