Rachel Greig has started a new Facebook page for RNZAF units at Emirau in WWII. It will feature photos and stories, etc, hopefully. Focus is on No. 5 Servicing Unit (fighters) and No. 10 Servicing Unit (bombers). www.facebook.com/5su10suOnEmirau

Hi,
I wish folks wouldn't use Facebook for everything!! A blog site is much more convienient. Facebook has too much associated rubbish with it.

I tend to agree but it is beter than nothing, and who knows what might come out of the woodwork through the many contacts there.

I agree with the facebook comment. I don't belong, and never intend to join, facebook so I can't get to see the photos. It also means I can't add any. Pity as my father was with 10SU.

Hi all, Good comments, all taken into consideration. We started the facebook page as another means of getting us out there and hopefully reaching the interested younger generation as well. Will definitely look at starting a blog as well. Will update on here when it is live. Thanks all! Rachel

I think Facebook is fine to use,it's easy to search and post.I started a 149 Sqd group a few months ago and Alan fraser ( 149 Historian) and I help family members quite a bit to discover their family involvement in Bomber Command.

It may well be easy to use, but you should leave non-members[1] a way to a) view information shared, and b) contribute information. [1] e.g. those unwilling to let a 'service' which agressively attempts to share information about them with other parties, including advertisers.

Yes. Facebook is a giant scam and I'm not a big fan at all. I wish I'd never joined to be honest. It is however good to keep up to daye with some of the restoration shops who use it now rather than update their websites, as its easier.

Depends how you use it.If you over use it and it can be a problem but if you use it for updates on things or to keep in touch then it's fine.Imagine asking friends you haven't seen in years to email a picture of themselves.

I had an account and promptly killed it off. I see it like Apple computers, Ipods and Iphones etc. Once you are in 'their' system you are stuffed! I like to stay independent but is is getting more and more difficult these days as it seems 'easier' to let 'others' look after everything rather than doing it yourself. OK, rant over Oliver

"I see it like Apple computers, Ipods and Iphones etc. "
Once upon a time it was "I think, therefore I am."
Today its become a case of "I Pod, therefore I am."

Take a deep breath, fellas, before you hurt yourselves on the furniture!
Facebook's fine if you limit its use and control the filters etc.; it's a good way to get youngsters interested in something! Apple gear is easy to use, tough as old boots and has good software as part of the package; why bother with anything you need to baby along; after all, I have a life and I want to spend as little time staring at a damn computer as I can!!
