Perhaps we should have a new thread on this new turn of events. My computer says we have 67 pages on the topic of the sale of the ex-RNZAF A-4 fleet. While it may be drawing to a close we will have more on the future of the aircraft once they get to the States. Probably many pages there alone.
We now have Dave (not just DH), mentioning the very real possibility of an A-4 being imported and possibly flown here. I can see many, many pages being written about this new import if it is a happening thing.
The new member has certainly made interesting debut but in this case I doubt it is all bullsh*t and bluster. The State Dept may make life difficult but there could be ways about that, - possibly even a change of tack and another aircraft type.
I think something could be happening. This from a guy who would have called both Tim and Glyn dreamers some decades ago.

Well I think all aviation enthusiasts in NZ over the past 25 years or so have seen a shit load of things that they never thought they'd see/witness;
A Mossie, P40 with firing guns, Mustang, Spitfire(s), Avenger, Anson and a Corsair (plus the many I've missed of course) but if someone had predicted that 25 years ago I would have laughed my arse off.
So let's not be too hasty in writing off the possibility of an airborne A4 in NZ skies just yet. :-)

I'm definitely not approaching this with negativity or scepticism: for my part I am genuinely interested :-)
And now back to Squawk Talk!

A Skyhawk on the back of a truck just passed my office window in Tauranga - I guess this is one of the A-4s on the way to the States

Without repeating what has been said already with regards to airspeednz and his possible purchase of side aircraft. Can we all show some positive support for the guy? Because unless someone has a crystal ball nobody is going to know what he has up his sleeve. Plus if he is successful then everyone won't be able to get enough, which is the complete opposite that is being shown at present. Which might make him stop from posting anything and I for one would not like that to happen. With respect to people on this forum that have their fingers on the pulse with regards to the NZ A4s.And all that has been said before about them, I think we all have the picture they are going nowhere shame but true.... So lets get in behind airspeednz and see where we all end up, Cheers

Im all for Mr airspeednz, I will happily donate my time and effort to achieve a flying skyhawk. Money to operate one is the least of the worries, How long the US state department takes to decide on weather the aircraft can be imported is the potential problem.
Having spoken at length with Jared from Draken about operating one here, the only hurdle was the state department, it just wasnt worth the hassle.

cheap outright price for the A4L's but the cost of getting it all ready for flight etc would be just about as much ?

Ok. Plan A win saturday nights lotto. Thats $12 mil. That'd cover one TA4-J and lawyers fees dealing with US State Dept ;D More realistically both those TA4-Js look good.

Lester, with that prize you could buy a F111 pig from the Boneyard & hire Barnsey to fly that as well ;D

No I wouldn't be allowed to buy two TA4-Js. I could get her indoors to probably agree to one if I won but most definitely not two. That would be living dangerously ;D Not much chance of me winning because the mongrels never pull my numbers out.

Yeah well after the wife saw the HUD tape of the flight I did with Kermit, she asked what that beeping was all the time, I told her it was a radio altimeter warning him we were below 50ft, she went quiet for a moment (probably working out just how low 50ft is) then said " you aren't allowed to fly with him again" ;-)
Besides I figure Barnsey has beaten the laws of averages now so he'll be sweet.
