A long shot but does anyone know this pilots name? Rotorua June 1995. [This was when we had 4 days in AKL so often took the family on those trips, and while in Rotorua paid for a scenic...he was a great guy, very patient with my kids and would like him to know they are both earning a living aviating now. Great people like him foster the enthusiasm and even though they were surrounded by aviation it's the nice people they remember]

Didn't "Hooks" fly floatplanes in 'Vegas at some stage... maybe earlier than '95 though?

That is the late Steve Davis. I went flying with him in 2003 when I was doing the tourist thing in Rotovegas with a visiting American friend. After finding out I was a plane nut he gave me a very enthusiastic encouragement to learn to fly which included his own flying story. I remember Steve the way Chinapilot does, a genuinely nice bloke with boundless enthusiasm and endless patience.

What a shame to hear he's no longer with us, he sounds like a terrific enthusiast.

Steve was a good guy. Succumbed to cancer, sadly. I first met Steve in about 1984 when he first moved to Rotorua. He was with the floatplanes right from the time he moved there.

Sorry to hear the pilot is no longer around but float plane ZK-EFI still is i often see it down at the boat harbour at lake Taupo. I've often wonderd did the EFI bit in the rego stand for electronic fuel injection? if so cool rego...
