Great hobby you have there Gavin. Have you ever thought about adding a camera to your plane?

Superb photos Gavin, these are great! And yes, very big! My Dad was into r/c gliders years ago (as well as r/c planes, boats and cars!). His favourite glider was a Nimbus, and he and his mates used to do the towplane thing sometimes and it was cool to watch, Dad had a Pawnee which suited the job well. But most of the time their gliders were launched by a long stretched bungy cord, also impressive to watch. I miss the days when i went and watched Dad flying his models.

With that kind of heritage why don't you get into flying models yourself Dave?

It never really appealled to me in that way. I enjoyed going along with Dad and spending time watching him and his mates fly (and crash) planes. But my interest was always purely in scale plastic kits. I did start building a model tug with Dad, he used to make it as a kit to sell when he did fibreglass huls and he and I went and had a tour of the two real tugs its based on (Parahaka and the other I forget in Northland). We got a certain way and i joined the RNZAF and it never got finished. I was amazed he never finished it but I think he wanted to do it with me, and by the time i came home I'd gone onto other interests. one day I will complete it, it' still in his workshop waiting for me to find some time. I used to spend a lot of time in Dad's workshop with him helping him build stuff, holding things while he cut them, passing tools, etc. Was fun when there was nothing on the television.
