For those of us in CHCH, the B787 Dreamliner will be visiting CHC Wednesday, landing between 0930 and 1000. Cameras at the ready and nobody hog my view.

Got there, ready, took a few pre shots of other coming and going then nothing, battery dead, OMG, quick 2 minute trip back to work to put it on charge for 30 min then go back. She's down with hundreds around her and in a stupid spot for photos unless you were a sheep in the next paddock. Got some others from the western side of the airport on the way home but couldn't stay long enough to wait for her to take off. There was this other guy there I was chatting to, who had this massive lens, must have been 2 feet long. So if he is a member here and has a yellow honda jazz, gidday. [

I was lucky to get through it today and it's quite a machine. Looks absolutely gorgeous and perfectly proportioned in the flesh. Spoke with the Captain and the other guy who I think was was first officer. His father flew B17's ! Everything feels roomy about it, although to be fair, that would vary from aircraft to aircraft depending on the required config. The business class seats, angled, looked very comfortable. I could see myself heading very comfortably to London on that ! One day. Was a beautiful Christchurch day and the crew were clearly impressed by the southern scenery as they flew down.
As you probably know, Air NZ is the launch customer for the 787 Dash 9. Longer than the a/c we saw today. Bring it on for 2014.
very very nice. But then what would you expect, . . . it's a Boeing !

Ya know, I didnt really notice. I got a badge, a sticker and a Lanyard. The crew and Boeing support people from Seattle and a few from Sydney were very very good. As were all the Air NZ people. I was surprised how accessible the aircraft was. Wandered round. Looked up in the nose gear bay. People were kicking the tyres. Very relaxed but very professional. It was a goodwill tour, designed to bridge the gap til the delivery date. As a PR exercise it was great. Nice atmosphere, and everyone very enthused. I guess the 20 per cent better fuel efficiency will help offset the circa 200k USD cost per aircraft. Possibly even more than that now.
This is a nice product and I was told the ANZ apprentices were jumping out of their skins with excitement when they got a look at it today.
Its the future . . . . and its almost here.

Man, you suck! ;D ;D Sounds like a great experience, and it is good to hear that Boeing were happy for everyone to have a good look at everything on the aircraft. Personally, I just love that Boeing colour scheme.

They only cost around US$200,000? Surely that is cheap isn't it? I thought they'd be well into the millions.
I saw a couple of news reports tonight, it looked nice inside. I like the fact you can push a button and tint the windows electronically! Very sci-fi.

na, only 200k Dave. They are plastic now., Air NZ would love it if they only cost that much. I can tint the windows in my van by the push of a button too. Takes about 10 seconds for this happen. Gets a bit breezy when it it is bright and clear but goes away when it darkens up a fraction......
