From the NZ Bomber Command Association thread: Had a call today from "the media " checking on the frequency of medal scams ie basically theft but under the pretence of taking them for research , or cleaning or they arent worth anything. Has anyone come across this lately ? I know that some logbooks and medals have been included in house lot clearances , paid for ,but not much , then on sold at a very good profit. Thats legal but questionable especially when the auction house knows very well what they are worth. I suppose there are legal or some other bullshit reason that we cannot name and shame so-called researchers or others that rip off war vets or their relatives. I know that when I interviewed Gilbert Symonds he was reluctant to allow me to take anything away - not that I wanted to and I fully undetrstood. I told him of the one person that I had been told of who had ripped off an establishment and he was dismayed as this person was held in high esteem by him. As a way around this issue we could pm those of us who are interested. What are your thoughts?

I have had some interesting feedback from some of you on this subject and a few names as well.
Following a discussion I have decided to keep a record of these "named" people. If you have a query about someone, pm me and I will advise if I have any information or not. THEN I will contact the person who supplied me the inforation to see if they are willing to correspond with you. Fair to all I think.
Nice to see the original person that I referred to has been "mentioned in dispatches" more than once.

To name and shame is one thing. However you have to be carefull of slander or defamation. Is this something that Dave H needs or something he could do without? Running this forum has taken alot of commitment and effort from Dave H over the years. Name and shaming may be more trouble than its worth. My ten cents.
