Was this the corsair that rested at Wigram before being traded out?

I believe it is, the F4U-5N that was gifted to the Museum by the Walt Disney Corporation, and later swapped to Australia for the Kittyhawk.

I believe it is, the F4U-5N that was gifted to the Museum by the Walt Disney Corporation, and later swapped to Australia for the Kittyhawk. Yes pretty sure thats the one Dave, I recall crawling over it in 7 hangar and admiring the big R2800 engine that cane with it! We were looking over the parts that came with it and realised although it had a four blade hub there was only 3 blades!

I think it had all four blades when I knew it in No. 6 Hangar, 1991-93. I have read in the RNZAF Museum's own old magazine that their staff began dismantling it with the aim of backdating it to a F4U-1D. But after a time this was decision reversed and it was reassembled as a F4U-5N. Then it was swapped for the P-40F that has been bacdated to a P-40E.

Wow, nearly missed this one!
Gee, she looks fantastic - certainly much better than when I saw it leaving Wigram to travel across the Tasman.

She looks awesome! It's great to see it not represent an American example, those later models with the bumpy cowl and different prop look great in "foreign" colours.
Kudos to Graham and his team, it may be 15yr since she arrived but she looks amazing.

I managed to catch the second flight of the Corsair. A magnificent sight and sound. I saw the take off but could get to the other end of Darwin airport for the landing. I saw it taxi back in though. Well done to all. I have posted photos at Aussie Modeller www.aussiemodeller.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8324 John

That link doesn't work John, you have to be a member / logged in to view. Be great if you could post them here :)0 Fab news, another airworthy Corsair is a significant event for the 'downunder' warbird scene
