Just thinking today how much I love and love learning about the 60's,although I wasn't there at the time.If you could go back in time, what era would you go back to and why?

Hah! Beagle you crack me up. Aviation-wise I love the 'golden age' '50s and '60s. So much growth and development. Ahh brand spanking new Cessna 180s even at aeroclub level... sigh

Aviation-wise, the '60's. Personal-wise, the eighties.

Ah..the 'swingin' sixties' , all that free love, flowers in the hair stuff. New Zealand was a very different place then. You wouldn't have been able to buy a new Cessna, or a new car for that matter unless you were in possession of the magic 'overseas funds', and in the case of new cars, they were virtually rationed and you needed both those overseas funds and a trade-in before a car dealer would talk to you. Cow cockies always seemed to find a way of course!
Nobody went on their 'OE" by air, it was all ships, and multi -berth cabins. International air travel was not only expensive but no where near as frequent. A BOAC Comet from Whenuapai took four days to get to the UK!

Being on the Coral route in ZK.AMO or alike, now that would be a great experience.... who needs the need for speed there....

For me it would have to be the early 1940's. The aeroplanes around then like the Kittyhawks, Hudsons, Corsairs, Venturas, Vincents, Baffins, Express and Empires - wow. And not only that but the people were great then too, the greatest generation. I think I'd head for 1941 thanks, armed with my camera and video camera.

Late Fifties - early Sixties. When I really became interested in aviation. I post a new thread with my musings such as they were,

The 1960s I think, when flying was cheap and the likes of the Space programme allowed people to dream big and think that anything was possible. Dreaming big isnt allowed nowadays...

She did neuter the Air Force and it still hasn't got better Early 80's, back home. Skyhawks, Strikemasters and other assortments flying over the house. Iroquois landing in the back paddock for a free ride and surveying and Scorpion tanks in the driveway. I shit you not. The good ole days, indeed. To be fair, I'd have been all over the 40's. When aircraft had real style.
