tvnz.co.nz/national-news/two-walk-water-after-gyrocopter-s-plunge-5156416Two walk from water after gyrocopter's plungeupdated 15:08 Published: 1:51PM Wednesday October 24, 2012 Source: ONE News Two men walked from the water 200 metres from the end of the Tauranga airport runway after their gyrocopter made an emergency landing. Police say the gyrocopter lost power at 500 feet shortly after take-off at 1.30pm and landed in the shallows of Tauranga Harbour. One of the men, both believed to be in their 60s, was taken to hospital as a precaution but neither are understood to have been seriously injured. Police have passed the incident to the Civil Aviation Authority for investigation. Eyewitness Stuart Davison has told ONE News he saw the gyrocopter crash. He said it had just taken off from runway 34 and started to circle back. "The tower must have noticed something was wrong as he radioed them and then the gyro dropped pretty quick into the water," Davison said in an email to ONE News. "Probably a good thing they were over water as they came down pretty hard. Fortunately they got out by themselves and I think are OK." Police, ambulance and the Fire Service attended the incident. Both occupants reported as OK. "Two men have walked away from a gyrocopter crash near Tauranga Airport. The men, both believed to be in their 60s, walked from the wreckage after the aircraft lost power and crashed into Tauranga Harbour, about 200 metres from the end of the airport's runway, police said." home.nzcity.co.nz/news/article.aspx?id=156195

I wouldn't say it rains gyrocopters here, but they seem to plummet quite regularly.
