An Air NZ B777 is getting the worlds largest graphic at the moment as it is turned into a billboard for the movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Lots of secrecy at the Air NZ maintenace depot and aircraft will be unveiled on 24th November 2012.

For those in Wellywood, ZK-OKP in its Hobbit livery will be landing today, Tuesday 27 November. ETA 1100 from AKL as NZ6691 and departing as NZ6692 back to AKL at around 1215. Looking at the forecast it is expected runway 34 will be the runway direction in use by that time. It will be back to WLG Wednesday afternoon for an overflight of the red carpet at 1730.

I know someone who took about 20 photos of ZK-CKP at Wellington Airport today. She is a member of this group but has never posted (she only reads). I've been dropping the hint to her to either post some of her photos to this thread (I've seen one of them that she sent me, and it is an excellent photo), or else send the pick of them to me and I'll post them to the thread. However, she is probably busy at the moment preparing dinner for her kids.

That would be an impressive sight watching the B777 approach and landing at Wellington. Would Air NZ be able to operate a B777 out of Wgtn as a regular service if it got the pax numbers? I was in Wgtn when QANTAS tested & then operated the B747SP out of Wgtn. i was thinking along lines of runway length and safe aircraft operating parameters.

Air New Zealand is about to do a flypast over the Hobbit premiere in Wellington. Should be interesting, watch TV3 now!

It was interesting. Would have liked a bit more visual perspective.
