I've just had almost two weeks off on leave. Back to reality tomorrow morning when the alarm clock goes off at 3:00am. That early shift used to begin at 4:30am when I went on leave, but while I've been away, it has changed to a 4:00am start. Bugger!

How hard would it be to get a train horn to fit to a car

How big an air compressor have you got fitted to your car?
I did actually manage to put someone in touch with the right person at Hutt Workshops about ten years ago and the result was he obtained a working set of three locomotive horns off a locomotive they were cutting up for scrap. The big problem was the compressed air supply to make the horns work. They need about 350kpa of air pressure before they'll even begin to speak. And if you want them to speak loudly, then you'll need closer to 500kpa of air pressure.
You'd probably find it a lot harder to get some horns these days, although when the Auckland rail system is electrified in about 2-3 years time, there will be a few surplus diesel electric locomotives that may end up getting cut up for scrap.

Yes I've thought about train horn on car too. I knew I'd need a kickass compressor and I'd most definitely want it to speak loudly, very loudly. I had visions of sitting behind slow starter at lights and letting rip ;D but the realised might cause a cardiac arrest. That would cause lots of explaining and paperwork. We did have one on the Kiwi.

It didnt seem hard to hook up a train horn to a Mini on "goodbye Pork Pie" - are you saying that the Movie wasn't entirely accurate? Well....it was a movie....and movies (and their special effects people) are notorious for using smoke & mirrors to make anything seem possible. Just like a couple of WWI tanks from Weta that turned out to be not quite what they seemed (plywood instead of steel, and encasing a D4 bulldozer).

One of those tanks is GRP.
This CLICK HERE topic has, I'm certian, been posted here before. Perhaps that was the other end of the internet?

And your train will be full of Hobbits no doubt. ;D Nah....my train departs Masterton at 5:45am. It will be full of workers, as will the 6:25am train and the 6:50am train. I would imagine most Hobbit fans will be on the 10:25am train to Wellington. I will be heading out the gate at the end of my shift as that service is departing Masterton. My last job will be to take the locomotive off the north end, turn it and couple it onto the south end of the train, and then walk away and go home. Somebody else will take that 10:25am train over to Wellington. I will be finishing for the day about the time my early morning commuters are having their morning tea break.
