Aeromedia (Peter Mac) is rebuilding the cockpit section of former RNZAF Douglas C-47 Dakota NZ3503 which in WWII as part of No. 40 Squadron RNZAF wore a distinctive nose art, as seen here: Although it is being returned to wartime congiguration and colour scheme Peter's not sure if he wants to complete the restoration by adding the nose art back to the cockpit. So we're having a poll to see what the members out there think he should do. Please cast your votes and post any opinions or other info that may help.

Hi I reckon with the nose art on it depicts what all C 47's did so well during the war. Doing almost anything to get the job done. Look at it as a tribute to all C 47's.?? Cheers

I can understand why Pete may not wish to have the nose art on there as it may look too large on just the cockpit section alone but would look "scale" on the entire aircraft. Nevertheless, if it is applicable to the aircraft then I think it should go back on. A pic board showing the restoration shall no doubt accompany the completed cockpit around the shows and if it has a copy of that colour pic then people can see that it is original to the machine.......My vote is to have it repainted exactly how it was.

Would it be acceptable to do the nose art say 3/4 the size as then this might not be so over powering? Since it is only a cockpit, I know thats not technically correct but to the eye it might be more pleasing? Still like the idea of it on though..... just my 2 cents worth thats all.

Ando, that "colour pic" is not real. I did a quick 20-minute photoshop treatment on the same photo that Peter posted. Sorry.

Folks,
An announcement ! Have just received a signal from aeromedia aka Pete McQ that his son Jason and wife Amy have just been delivered of their son Charlie....... now there is another in line for inheritance of the restored C-37 cockpit ! Dave, you should sign Charlie up now to Wings. Perhaps under the sobriquet Curtiss McQ. Congratulations to Jas, Amy, Pete and Larraine !
