Xmas day, hmm, the usual family traditions will continue. After pressie opening and scoffing of lollies and chocolate, a BBQ breakfast of bacon, hash browns, french toast, pancakes etc. Then a bit of lying around followed by freshly baked ham carved off the bone and some salad. Dinner is leftovers (if you feel hungry) and maybe since its 40 degrees forecast we'll head out to one of the local dams for a quick swim.

Wow 40 degrees? And i thought the forecast for 28 in Christchurch was a bit high for Christmas Day!! Have a great day Lester. ;D I worked today, then have Xmas day Boxing day off, back to work for Thursday, Friday then Monday then thats it for the year until the 7th of January. Not going anywhere few jobs round home, bit of Auster work,, got the folks arriving 11:30ish Christmas evening from Australia as we have a family wedding on the 29th. They haven't been to Christchurch since before the earthquakes so it will be quite the eyeopener for them!! Round to Teresa's brothers for Christmas dinner. I also hope to take a few shots at him with various weaponry (online of course....BF3). Nothing says Christmas like an antitank missile to the face! (Although he's better than me so I tend to die.... a lot.) Merry Christmas everyone

Wellington gets blue skies for ChristmasWeather gods smile on WellingtonBy MATT STEWART - The Dominion Post | 9:20AM - 25 December 2012CHRISTMAS MIRACLE: Wellingtonians awoke this morning to fine, blue skies in the capital for Christmas. — Photo: EMILY LEADBITTER.CHRISTMAS DAY is shaping up to be subtropical with hot, humid, drizzly and damp weather forecast for the lower North Island.
MetService forecaster Peter Knudsen said the muggy weather was being generated by a slow-moving low on the tale of ex tropical Cyclone Evan that will keep hugging the east coast of the North Island over the coming days.
“It’s a long time since it’s been a cyclone. It’s not an active machine so we don’t expect any wild weather — Christmas Day will be humid and hot and generally fine with cloudy periods, especially morning and night. Wherever there’s morning cloud there’ll be a few drizzle patches associated,” Mr Knudsen said.
There is also a chance of heavy afternoon and evening showers especially in Taranaki, Wanganui and Manawatu.
On Boxing Day the low and an associated trough are likely to move onto central New Zealand bringing rain to many areas and a low risk of heavy rain over the North Island from Waitomo to Wellington, the central high country and in Wairarapa.
The long-range forecast for New Year’s eve and New Year’s day around the lower North Island was for gusty nor’westers and rain as twin highs squeezed the country.
WeatherWatch head analyst Philip Duncan said although the system would make the central North Island vulnerable to rain the overnight temperature should please revellers and sit at reasonably warm maximum of 18°C.
“But the system might arrive a day earlier or a day later, so fingers crossed — that’s the thing with a long-range forecast,” Mr Duncan said.______________________________________ Christmas Day WeatherWELLINGTON Mainly sunny and fine apart from morning and evening cloud. chance of evening showers. Southerly change overnight. Maximum of 26°C.
WAIRARAPA Muggy, morning cloud and drizzle. Maximum for Masterton of 31°C.
HAWKE’S BAY Mainly fine, humid nor’easters. Maximum for Napier of 29°C.
TARANAKI Patchy rain and drizzle developing to scattered showers in afternoon and evening. Humid nor’easters. Maximum for New Plymouth of 25°C.
MANAWATU/WHANGANUI Cloudy periods with a few showers and nor’easters. Maximum of 30°C for Whanganui.

It's currently 31.5C in the shade on the thermometer on Mum's backdorstep! It's not the heat that's the killer though, it's the humidity, which is simply awful right now.

Wellington enjoys sun-soaked ChristmasOriental Bay a hot spot for festivitesBy SOPHIE SPEER - The Dominion Post | 2:56PM - Tuesday, 25 December 2012GREAT DAY FOR IT: Aussie visitors, from left, Chelsea Lewis, 17, Caitlyn Lewis, 13, and Lyndell Karo, 11, with Adventure Wellington Santa Roy Hoogmoed at Oriental Bay. — KEVIN STENT/Fairfax NZ.ALFRESCO Christmas celebrations are on the cards for Wellingtonians as the sun shines down on the capital.
By 11am, Oriental Bay was teeming with families and friends taking a Christmas dip and soaking up the sunshine.
Among beach revellers are members of meet up group Adventure Wellington, who are holding an all-day Christmas party on the beach for people without family in Wellington.
Member Simon Carter said they were expecting more than 100 people to head along to the event, where there will be a secret Santa, food, music and games.
Dressed in Santa suits, Mr Carter along with Roy Hoogmoed, Ronel Ellis and Chris Campbell paddled in kayaks and on paddle boards from the lagoon to Oriental Bay, with a Christmas tree attached to a kayak.
They became attractions as beach goers lined up to get their photo taken with the festive Santas.
Australians Chelsea Lewis, 17, Caitlin Lewis, 13, and Lyndell Karo, 11, are spending Christmas in Wellington after visiting family in Matamata and Whangarei.
Chelsea said she did not expected it to be so hot and sunny on Christmas day, and they were loving spending the morning on the beach. “This sand isn’t as nice as Australia’s though.”
Eight-year-old Sam Davidson, from Upper Hutt, was at the beach with her parents playing with her Lalaloopsy doll she received from Santa.www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/8117871/Wellington-enjoys-sun-soaked-Christmas

Storm warning for WellingtonBy MATT STEWART - The Dominion Post | 5:33PM - Tuesday, 25 December 2012CHRISTMAS could end with a thunderstorm in Wellington, as the remnants of Cyclone Evan push through tropical weather.
The capital is on watch for a severe thunderstorm this evening, with parts of the Wairarapa and Manawatu already lashed with torrential rain, thunder and even hail.
Metservice severe weather forecaster John Crouch said that weather could drift over the mountain ranges to Wellington tonight.
“There is a potential for flash floods, that is a real risk with these torrential downpours,” he said.
The rain and thunder comes after the low pressure system that was Cyclone Evan hit Northland and Auckland and pushed hot humid conditions down the North Island.
The rain will bring with it a temperature drop in Wellington, which is likely to persist through till Friday, accompanied by frequent showers.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in place this afternoon for the lower part of the North Island from Whanganui to Wellington and part of the upper South Island, between Nelson and Hokitiki.
Rain is expected to spread through most of the North Island south of Auckland and the upper South Island down to North Canterbury tomorrow.
Christmas Day had been subtropical with hot, humid, drizzly weather experienced in the lower North Island.
The long-range forecast for New Year’s eve and New Year’s day around the lower North Island was for gusty nor’westers and rain as twin highs squeezed the country.www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/8115888/Storm-warning-for-Wellington

Who's a clever girl then? To prove that wives are quite often listening when they appear not to be, one extremely clever chief executive [my wife] in our house, handed out two tickets to WOW for myself and Mumbles! I haven't a clue as to how she got onto that! Bloody female osmosis I suppose!

My in-laws gave me a wonderful gift of as-new/renovated table and chairs, coffee table and sofa for when we move into our new place, and for Miss Sam as a combined Xmas-birthday gift, a brand new washing machine for us.
Also got the Xbox game Far Cry 3 and a set of aviation-themed pencils, erasers and stickers from Miss Sam ;-)
THAT HEAT! It was absolutely horrible. Two fans going in our very small lounge - 12 bodies didn't help - but by 4pm it was almost back to normal.

... THAT HEAT! It was absolutely horrible. Two fans going in our very small lounge - 12 bodies didn't help - but by 4pm it was almost back to normal. Sounds like being in a air-conditioned car going from Hawera to Auckland was a good option! Auckland had cloud and occasional downpours. Drove around the mountain on Monday, a bit warm on the north side!
