HAHA! I decided against it at 8pm tonight - it was so peaceful out, everyone home but busy eating or resting.
As for Christmas Day, a sleep in first (in the peace and quiet!!) and then off to enjoy the good cheer with half the family in Hams and even a swim in the afternoon at Tauranga - yes we are braving the traffic three times that day.

I will be suffering sandfly bites and inhumane sleeping / camping conditions ( by spending the day drinking rum on the beach in the Marlbrough sounds - at least thats how it will start )  |

Eating lots of different dead animal parts cooked up on a BBQ, drinking lots of beer and cider - and as a consequence of all this, probably passing out in my chair on the deck by 1pm! ;D

It seems that we are heading off down the river to Karapiro or somewhere near the water for a lunchtime family picnic. Then in the evening I'm off to my best mate's garage bar for drinks.

We have the caravan all tidied up and ready to go.
We did expect to be on the road by today, but given the pessimism about the weather, we are holding back until the tropical storm/heavy rain/light drizzle has passed.
Our memories of last year camping for two weeks in the pouring rain at Havelock North followed by one week camping in the pouring rain at Martinborough have made us a wee bit cautious.
We expect to be heading for Tauranga, and then work our way down Whakatane/Opotiki/Te Araroa/Gisborne.
In anticipation, we have had our Christmas meet-ups over the last week or two.
So in answer to the question, not a lot.

We're already at my brother's in Hawera, as it was my sis-in-law's 40th last night. Being an avgeek was handy getting here - the motorway was closed at Takanini due to a 3 ambulance accident, so I was confident about getting off at alfriston road, and swinging past Ardmore and back to the motorway at Drury.
Heading back to Auckland on Xmas day, waving at the dog in the kennels near AKL on the way to the Langham hotel in town. After checking in, we are having dinner in Eight (fancy set-up with 8 cooking stations) with my partner's sis and b-i-law.
Boxing day we will pick up the dog and laze about at home!

We're already at my brother's in Hawera, Nice! I live in Normanby now, we will be there on Tuesday. We've been staying at my parents'/Fletcher house for the weekend, back to home to help Sam's aunt prepare Xmas lunch, and then up to New Plymouth. Xmas morning with her parents and brother, then travel back to Normanby and the BIG family deal at our place. Post-Xmas I have an interview to start for my final Journalism Diploma article, New Year's Eve with her parents at a lake somewhere on their boat, and on the way home have a drink at the Green Dragon and check out Hobbiton! |

Mine will be fairly quite Xmas day as the wifey is chilling out, literally, in Seattle with ther sister so it is just me and the adult kids. We will end up at my sisters mid afternoon where one of my nieces will be there wih her two young boys.There we can swim and play tennis. My sister lives in an apartment complex.
The next day my two kids go their seperate ways. One to Waihi and the other to Rythm and Vines.
I will spend Boxing day looking for a cheap aviation calender at the malls. The the next day I will go to Whangamata and stay with my cousin.

We are working our way slowly towards Gulf Harbour for Christmas Day. Been to Takapau enroute today to try and figure where some of my Harvard stuff used to live. A beer or three at Port Napier with a nice steak tonite. Probably do my ritual inspection of the Dak at Taupo tomorrow for the last time before it moves. Mrs Mac wouldn't let me detour via Gisborne to "Dak hunt" . She's usually far more accommodating. Merry Christmas everyone !
