I just wondered if anyone had any information or update on the wonderful Electra aircraft which I saw a while ago on a visit to Ardmore? A web search gives the following on nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz: "In the background is a Lockheed L 10 Electra rebuild which is quite advanced. I understand this will become ZK-AWR for Rob Mackley. The Kaipara Aviation Trust also owns the immaculate red Cessna o1H Bird Dog ZK-DOG." Also from Wikipedia: "Two Model 10 Electras are also preserved in New Zealand's Museum of Transport and Technology at Auckland. Another Auckland-based Electra, owned by Kaipara Aviation Trust, is under restoration to flying condition." I have never seen this project covered anywhere and would be keen to know more?

From tighar.org/aw/mediawiki/images/7/7f/SurvivorsElectra_10version4.pdfThere is a photo of this aircraft in Alaska on this site C/n 1145 - Ex-Alaska model 10, now in NZ being restored to to airworthy by Rob Mackley. In 1998 a former Lan Chile L.10a (c/n 1145, ex CC226 'Diego de Almagro', CC-LGN-507, CC-CLG-0005, CC-CLEA-231, N10310) was imported from Alaska by Mackley Aviation for restoration. Built in 1941 for Lan Chile, this aircraft had been sold in 1959 to American interests and flown to Oregon. Moved to Alaska, the aircraft was impounded for unpaid parking charges and defaulted to the State. After residing in various museums, the aircraft was sold to Rob Mackley in 1997. Dismantled and shipped to New Zealand, the Electra is currently in Auckland. Source: www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/electra.htm

It is progressing very well and is advancing. There is a limited team working on the machine so it will be finished when its finished but it is well advanced from the photos above.

The last time I spoke with Rob's brother Brooke (a while ago now) it was structurally complete. It was mainly engines, systems and fitout to be completed though as noted previously it's not high on the priority list but it is progressing.

Wouldn't that be nice?
Meantime, I'm pleased to see recent images of AWR. A very exciting aircraft for the airshow scene.

Sorry guys, photos were a sneak preview. It would seem that the reason there is not a lot information or published images is that is the wish of the owner. Don't want to upset anyone so happy to take them down again from here.
Note Zac that even my images are a good few years old now. She must look twice as good again by now.
Still keen to hear more news of the project even if images aren't cool right now...

That was a 12A ...it went back to the States with the owner.
Another classic twin coming? Wasn't there suppsoe to be a Beech 18 in the pipeline? What about the Beech 18 on the North Shore...that looks like it has changed hands...maybe that will be airborne again?
