Great News for all you WW1 buffs out there – aren’t we all!!
I have been working for a while now here in Brisbane with Andrew Carter who recently imported a Fokker Dr1 which is due to fly very soon.
I am now thrilled to be able to announce here on Andrew’s behalf via the attached Press release that three more Fokkers are, as I type, are on their way from Europe for immediate shipment to Brisbane and then Caboolture to be completed and flown as a part of the The Australian Vintage Aviation Society – TAVAS fleet.
The Fokkers are an E111, DV11 and DV111. Constructed by the world’s premier German WW1 replica builder Achim Engles and are superb aircraft constructed to the highest standards of workmanship . The 3 aircraft in question are Achim’s personal aircraft and are his latest rebuilds. We will thus have flying in Australia in time for all the important WW1 centenaries, examples of all the prominent “Fokker Scourge” aircraft
As with all things this is not a cheap or easy to accomplish and I will be in the future advising all concerned as to how we can assist to get these aircraft flying and keeping them there.

The TAVAS Press release
Achim Engels the globally renowned builder of WW1 Fokker reproductions has created a world first with his new arrangement with TAVAS – The Australian Vintage Aviation Society.
Achim will place on long term loan, 3 of his incredible aircraft to TAVAS, for them to complete to air worthy standard and display at flying events in Australia. The aircraft will be returned to Achim, in Germany, in flying condition, in 2030.
The aircraft are an E.III Eindekker, D.VII and D.VIII. The D.VIII is the most complete aircraft only missing and engine and will be the first aircraft TAVAS have flying Down Under. The E.III and D.VII will take a little longer as they still require some construction, engine and instruments, covering and finishing.
TAVAS founding director Andrew Carter said “I knew Achim was capable of out of the box thinking, but this has taken even me by surprise. His generosity has given us the chance to bring accurate WW1 reproductions to the Australian public and demonstrate these aircraft as they were almost 100 years ago. We will operate his new aircraft alongside our Fokker Dr.I Triplane and Sopwith Pup."
WW1 reproductions are sadly lacking on Australian shores and TAVAS was established to help bring builders, owners and enthusiasts together to display flying examples to the public on a regular basis and to educate them about this unique period in aviation History.
This long term loan from Achim gives a much needed boost to the remarkable work being done by this society, especially as we head towards November 2018, the centenary of Armistice. TAVAS has big plans for flying events at that time for people to remember all those who fell during that war, including many airmen - and to acknowledge the incredible advances made in aircraft design and construction at that time, that eventually lead to aviation as we know it today.
