I think we all have more sense than to discuss this idiot's views.

Unfortunately this idiot may cause more trouble for the PRT in Bamiyan and any other NZDF personnel in muslim countries with hardline elements. Also he'd been keen on bringing back an ACF for RNZAF and strong support for NZDF. I thought we'd might've had an ally in the house, but now he'll taint any cause he becomes involved in and I wouldn't go near him with a 40m barge pole.

I realise it is a difficult topic and we will do well to keep the lid on things here. I don't mean to politicise this at all as really it is actually non-political. This guy stood in an electorate and received 1.66 % of the total vote. 588 votes. I don't see that making him any form of politician or spokesman. That aside, from the aviation point of view there can be discussion. We all know the world has changed since the terrorist attacks. Aircrew have said it has made their life a misery. The travelling public have been hugely inconvenienced as well. What we have here is the media reporting International attention. Look at the Heralds headlines.. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10865089I then looked at the Jakarta Post. Not a squeak www.thejakartapost.com/How about The Mirror in the UK ? www.mirror.co.uk/Nothing there either. So what are we being fed here ? I was genuinely worried about a backlash against friends living and working in Indonesia. It transpires that they have heard nothing about it. We here can see what it is worth and take it for what it is. Others living in some countries may take it as the views of a New Zealand politician and think that it has Govt sanctions or similar. The very guys that get upset about this stuff don't always pay attention to the details or accuracy of any report. I was wondering how our international aircrew and those travelling this week are taking the news. Indeed if I were holidaying in Bali for instance I would be paying close attention to the newspaper and tv reporting. I work and travel in Indonesia a lot. I would not welcome some of this reporting to be circulated within country. .

Before today I had never hear dof the guy, but I am convinced he's a very good politician as he endured more than 20 minutes of very pointed questioning this morning on Nine to Noon (Radio NZ National for the uninformed among us) and he managed to reply to pretty much every question without actually answering the question posed directly, and imparted pretty much nonsense on the listeners. Catherine Ryan was clearly getting annoyed with him. He came across as a complete fool, and I think the rest of the nation should now ignore him till he simply disappears. The media won't though of course.

obviously a slow news week, i had a gut load of 20 something y/o reporters editorialising the news and telling me what to think, cant help but think many of them dont know their ass from their elbow (no life experience to draw from) my rant for the week.

A serious case of foot in mouth disease if ever there was one.

I think it is the newspapers trying to make the news here.
A guy gets fed up with increased security because they take his pocket knife off him. He writes a few paragraphs about sterotyping and profiling in frustration..... in his own magazine column at that.
You have to wonder though how much thought he put into other journalists getting stuck in and making a meal of it, which is basically what they have done. So we have a media article, possibly blown up to various proportions seemingly to appease the editors and tv bosses.
The losers could be us... targeted directly by extremists in the short term or subjected to even more stringent and possibly wasteful security checks.
It seems like reporters elsewhere are doing the right thing though and ignoring it.. perhaps they are aware of the potential for real damage and pain.
I was getting sick and tired of being the target of extremists and criminals. NZ'ers generally didn't get the agro that I imagine the Americans seem to attract...... well at least that was until I read the Herald article.
I still have not heard from anyone in Indonesia that knows of Richard Prosser and his comments..
Viral about the NZ news rooms perhaps

first past the post for me...I've only heard about winston peters and none of it good. Getting a seat after polling so low, that would annoy me as he's only representing a very small amount of views. First past the post allows for change; one party doesn't need to argue with tossers as the majority are with the govt people, elected by the most people, reflecting their views.
