I am not sure about the rest of the country but the West of ChCh has had almost 24 hours of consistent light drizzle.
I swear I can see the lawns getting greener every hour. Yesterday the street had brown lawns apart from those that were watering them. This evening we are all catching up !
Other parts of the county experiencing something similar ?
This is great for Canterbury, ideal weather for many.

Rain started here at about 2.15am the night before last, and continued as either drizzle or reasonable showers off and on all through yesterday and into this morning. Now the sun's out again, the humidity is high and the grass has greened up in patches but only the bloody weeds in the lawn. It's about time though, it's been pretty chronic since January.

Fairly consistent rain with intermittent heavy stuff in the Manawatu, although I'm told it's not so heavy in Palmerston North. Our (admittedly dodgy) rain gauge was saying 80 ml from yesterday and today's efforts.
Also a fair amount of thunder - neighbours had a lightning strike! As did the power pylon about a mile away!

All of us really need about another four days of rain like this but unfortunately that doesn't look like happening, so by end of week we'll all be as dry as a dead dingos donger again ;D

We got a really heavy shower of rain at about 8.00pm, but it stopped again soon after. It flushed out the gutters and drains though I'd think.

Had 29.7mm here in Tokoroa over the last two days. Sometimes the showers are nice and heavy but they only last a short while. It's been the driest combined Jan + Feb that I have recorded in the 7 years of data with my weather station and at this rate I could add March to it as well. Light rain like this is great for the ground if it will only keep up a while longer. The driest I have seen it here in the 30 years of my presence in this region.

Fickle bunch aren't we. We've just experienced the hottest, driest, most cold sauvignon-blancish summer in the last 70 years or so, and we're now dreaming of rain. Here in Lower Hutt we've had now two nights of steady rain, and it's still doing it as I speak. I expect I can now remove the bucket from the shower placed there by herself "for the garden"!

Ever notice how it always rains at the end of a drought?

Quite the light show last night, from the top of the Waikato down to the Manawatu. It was absolutely tipping down in Palmerston North. Wasn't much better in Auckland in the wee hours of the morning either.

Was raining here (ChCh) early this morning, but now stopped and maybe clearing. Another three of four days would've been nice for the cockys.

2.30pm in Western Chch and it is still ideal. A light cold Southerly with a short drizzle patch an hour or so ago. This is almost a full two days now of overcast so the sun has not got a chance to dry things out. The lawns and gardens at least will be having a good chance to absorb some of this moisture. I know the anticyclone is coming but my grounds are really appreciating this. I am sure the local cockies must be getting some grass growth established also.
As I think it may remain like this for another hour or so there will be little evaporation today at least.
Even my car had that cleaner look about it. A free wash so I have to be happy.

Sounds lovely there Pat!
It's amazing how the grass (or the weeds in the lawn) have all turned green again since the rain.

Been on and off since Sunday in Nelson, a pleasant change after nothing for the past two months. Although the ridge overlooking my particular suburb is still golden brown, not green at all.

Was raining here (ChCh) early this morning, but now stopped and maybe clearing. Another three of four days would've been nice for the cockys. Yup, this is a splash rather than a drought breaker. It stopped raining in the Hutt about five hours ago, and hasn't restarted. Metservice is showing no more serious rain for Wellington at least for the next ten days, and given they predicted the rain on sunday almost to the hour, and usually get it right around here anyway I've got no reason to doubt it. It will likely be April at least until the drought officially breaks and water restrictions in Wellington are eased.
