Apologies if this has been posted previously, but I found this gem on YouTube recently. It's a drama set around a pilot in the RFC and I have to say I am more impressed by it than I have been by any film depicting the same period. All episodes are on this users channel. I hope you enjoy.

I watched 'Wings' as a kid. Also had the paperback novel. It is available on DVD but only in Region 1 format I believe.

Great find Jasper, I watched this series avidly as a kid, and watched the reruns in the school holidays in the 1980's too. Until I first went to Classic Fighters 2007 this was the entire sum of my knowledge of WWI air warfare.
Of interest the actor who plays Alan Farmer, the main character, went on to appear as the nasty, rich Squadron Leader in Piece of Cake.

First series in 1979. That was the date on the 3rd episode. Might have been made 1977-1978.

Released 1977-78: www.imdb.com/title/tt0164305/The aerial scenes were a mix of large scale models made by the late David Boddington, and full sized flying and ground replicas which were filmed at Shuttleworth and in the case of the Be2's and I think Eindekkers, in the USA.

Remembered seeing it as a kid, but had vague memories of it, so 2yr ago got it from Amazon. Enjoyed watching it, and am currently reading a lot of memoirs by WW1 pilots, and can't help but think of scenes and stories from this show when reading, almost as if the show writer had read the books. If you have a Kindle, there's a lot of these for free on that.
Currently £34 on Amazon, which, if I recall correctly, is about twice what I paid them for it. However, it is Saturday night, so I would wait for a Monday or Tuesday if I were to buy it, as they up the prices for these two days in particular, that's when most online buyers buy. And yes, it is region 2.

Yes, Region 2 for Europe, I stand corrected. A great series though, must get hold of it one day.
