Gardening guru had a 'wealth of knowledge'By: Jacob Brown | New Zealand News | Sunday April 28 2013 9:45 One of New Zealand's best known gardening gurus is being remembered for his wealth of knowledge. Eion Scarrow has died at a rest home in the Waikato, at the age of 81. He had suffered from health issues including prostate cancer, and had several heart operations. Newstalk ZB's Ruud Kleinpaste says Mr Scarrow will be sadly missed. "This man had a wealth of knowledge. "You could go to him for anything from vegetables - he taught me how to grow garlic and stuff - to flowers, and shrubs. He was right into that." That's because he was a petrol head as well. He was part of the stock-car fraternity, a safety scrutineer no less. He used to come to the PAC Engine Shop to get critical components like axles and steering linkages crack-tested in the Magnaflux (magnetic particle inspection) unit.
