The Hudson looks cool in that temporary scheme. The colours make it so multicoloured. Well done Wally.

I just realized - where are the side guns (0.303" VGO) fitted to all the Hudsons in NZ prior to deployment? These are shown in very few photographs, but the amazing US Navy shots taken of NZ2090 in flight around Guadalcanal show it well, also the additional radio aerials, etc. Don't know why I had not spotted this earlier. David D, Where were the side guns to which you refer fitted? I have never seen them in a photograph. Can you post or post a link to the US Navy photos of NZ2090 to which you refer? As to additional radio aerials, do you mean additional to the fuselage side-mounted ones? However inaccurate mine are, those are present. Were there still more? Hope you can fill in some more details for my next Hudson build and for the many other Hudson fans & modellers who have expressed interest in this thread. Cheers Wally.

There is a smudge on the windscreen, it can be seen further down too. It looks like a fingerprint to me.

When I say 'it can be seen further down' I meant further down the page, photo nine in that selection.

Perhaps Wally has a tiny face on his fingertip, that leaves facial impressions in canopy smudges?

Resting on the dashboard of the aircraft is one of those WWI "Your Country Needs You" posters, which is being reflected in the windshield. It is really an external blemish, possibly a tiny bit of cement crazing which I have thus far been unable to remove or lessen. But this is petty compared to the major issue of additional machine guns and additional antennas raised by David D. Does anyone know anything about or have photos of these, especially the former? Or have I been hoodwinked? I have looked at every Hudson photo and picture I can access and I can't see any additional machine guns on any of them. It's a question of accuracy which, as you all know, I take very seriously indeed. NZ5218, I'll try to crop and zoom-in the photo when Flickr allows me to connect to Aviary.

You've certainly not been hoodwinked, the operational aircraft did carry the Vickers machine guns in the beam positions as David says. It's just bloody hard to find photos because from most angles the wings and engines are in the way.

In this crop from a photo I got from Buz Busby you can see one of the machine guns poking out of the second-from-rear cabin window. I believe they were staggered so on the other side they would be a couple of windows along, so gunners were not back to back.

Your more than likely right dewobz. Infact I hope you are right. But it puts a different angle on things. By the way I really like the work you do on your models. Looking forward to seeing the zoom-in pic.

Thanks Dave, that is fascinating. Very interesting also is what looks like an open astro-hatch rather than astro-dome. The (presumably) plexiglass dome appears to be missing or is it just so clean it can't be seen? I'd love to see the complete photo Dave. When is your book due out? Are you taking pre-orders? Cheers Wally.

As I understand it the astro hatch dome swings down into the aircraft on a hinge. It doesn't swing up into the slipstream when open.
The book will be ready when its ready. Like a warbird restoration, good things take time. Something I have little of these days with so much going on and so many people drawing me into their projects.

The turret gunner must have gotten cold legs with the cabin windows missing for the Vickers guns to be mounted. Lucky they never patrolled at much of a high altitude.
