This has to be the best example of C-47/DC-3 in its scale, so much better than the Minicraft model. It must just about rival the Italeri example for accuracy (I guess the livery of my example leaves little to the imagination )

Thanks,
actually the Roden model is a great little kit for 1/144. It has transparent cabin windows & the cockpit section is transparent with well engraved windows, so long as they are properly masked (I used masking fluid) they come out well. The model captures nicely the bulging contours of the Dak's nose section, much more so than the minicraft kit. Also the wheels look more authentic & properly proportioned.

Very nice indeed - thanks for sharing.
Did you purchase the kit in New Zealand?

What are your plans for the scheme on the DC-3? Has NZ had any DC-3's on the register or have they all been C-47's?

Hmmm...I haven't decided yet, just about all aircraft delivered new to NZ were C-47s with the cargo door. There have been a few C-47s in NZ modded back to DC-3 configuration (with the small door), the latest ones were ZK-AMS and of course ZK-DAK (also I guess that new import...former Jean Batten aircraft in Omaka). Some of the NAC aircraft also gained the small door when they were converted to 'DC-3 status'. Also I think the SPANZ aircraft delivered to NZ from Ansett had also had the door conversion.
The kit is a DC-3A with P&W engines which is useful, because no Wright engined aircraft operated in NZ

ZK-BKE was originally ordered by American Airlines as a DC-3-277D, but was impressed by the USAAF on the production line, and rolled out as a C-50-DO. Thus it had the door on the oposite side from all other NZ Daks. NZ's only genuine DC-3!

ZK-BKE still seems to have the large cargo door though, right?

Really quite strange, isn't it? Maybe it was a right hand drive?
