Who copped it? We're nowhere near a seismic fault line and here the walls were shaking, there was a rolling sensation, and then there were the jolts. My sister and I were quite scared.
I rang Mum across town and she never felt a thing!

I see on Google news it was a 6.5 magnitude at Wellington 11km deep. Wow, it travelled a bloody long way!
Is everyone ok down there?

I didn't but my seismometer did at 17:11 or thereabouts. It showed .03g vertical acceleration. I have saved the screen image on the Garage PC so will try and retrieve it across my home network. I didn't feel it -- In the words of someone from Pink Floyd - "I don't really know - I was drunk at the time!" - well not true but I was in my small Club I visit on Sunday afternoons... because of the draw - Jokers Wild... up to $1333 and we hardly ever feel anything here in Tokoroa. <edit>Adding the image after... </edit>

I didn't feel it, but I'm at Auckland Airport waiting to board a flight to Masterton in about 25 minutes or so.
I hope I don't find any damage in my place when I get home.
Reports are coming in of damage to buildings and infrastructure in Wellington, although not much detail yet about how bad it is.

Apparently there's a lot of broken glass in the Wellington centre, also fires and people stuck in lifts, and some areas have had power cuts.

At Auckland Airport, they've just started announcing delays to flights heading for the bottom of the North Island over the PA system.
The reason they are giving is runway inspections following the earthquake.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Masterton flight will board and depart on time. They haven't mentioned delays to that flight yet.

Time for me to log-off and shut my laptop down.
My flight is supposedly boarding in eight minutes and I'm down the wrong end of the terminal.

Biggest one I have ever felt ( here in Blenheim ) . We had no power for about an hour . My three kids work at the local supermarket , wife drove down to pick them up ( they closed the supermarket ) . Not only stock on the floor but also some ceiling panels came down !

Not only stock on the floor but also some ceiling panels came down ! You all ok? Looks like you may be having a lot of aftershocks hopefully nowhere near as many as we've had. I would suggest stocking up on water, make sure you have some cash, torches not candles, torches handy, fuel in vehicles, emergency kit etc., phones always charged, a plan, supply of food and most importantly emergency absolute necessities - chocolate & whiskey or navy rum or whatever tickles your fantasy. Kia kaha.
