About a month a go I got back from a work trip just over three weeks long, covering 5 countries, 14 flights and about 60 hours in the air. There were long days and a lot of work, but I did manage to squeeze in a few days for me as well. I had flights in 737, 777, 787, A319, A320 and A330 aircraft along the way, but also got to see inside a Concorde and B-17G as well as a sectioned 727. I got into NYC about midnight and was up by 9am on Saturday for a walk around midtown Manhatten. While walking along the Hudson with my brother in law, who lives there, we heard a grumbling coming closer and looked up to see a Flying Fortress heading up the river. He said there were usually plenty of choppers and sightseeing planes about, but that was out of the ordinary. Turned out there was an airshow at Teterboro airport, so I caught a bus out there on Sunday and caught the show. First view of the B-17 B-17 up close Even closer The band and a couple of Warbirds pinups Cockpit view One of many 50 cals on board THey were doing scenic flights for US$450, which had me very tempted, but bank balance couldn't back it up... I'll add some more photos over the next few days

The B-17 was very impressive and looked great flying over the city. Apparently it was the first time it had visited New York, so was pretty lucky to catch it. The air show was more of a static display than flying show, with only the Val doing a few passes. The B-17 took off and landed a couple of times, but didn't do any display passes. C-54 Skymaster from "Spirit of Freedom" airlift Nice L-29 Val - actually a BT-13 converted for "Tora Tora Tora" Fly by Two American classics P-40 with teeth (of course) Corporate Jets Teterboro is close to Manhattan and home to large numbers of corporate jets, which were coming and going very regularly throughout the show. Teterboro was also the departure point for Amelia Earhart on her transatlantic flight. Something a bit different... It had been used in a movie, but not one of the Batman ones.

It is a great looking machine, would be great to drive it around. Always wondered what happened to the original Batcopter, or in other words a Bell 47 with some fairings!! Sorry off topic.

The original bat copter was at Oshkosh this year, displayed at the evening show but wasn't lit so was essentially invisible.... A pretty pointless inclusion in an otherwise excellent show.

Thanks for all the comments! I shouldn't have been so criptic about the Batmobile... Below is the info board that was with the car. It is a replica of the original TV series vehicle, but was used in a 2001 movie called Rockstar, which I can't say I have seen... As requested by Gavin, some more shots of it. Usually I am the one wanting to see more of Gavin's work, so nice to be able to give something back, as it were!! They didn't light the afterburner unfortunately... Parked next to the Batmobile was the Green Hornet's Black Beauty, though I couldn't work out the pedigree of this one It looked pretty cool! The show was called "Wings and Wheels Expo 2013", so there was a car show as well which even had a Holden discuised as a Pontiac GTO to make it feel more like home! A couple more planes, since this is an aviation forum... Rutan Defiant Ercoupe 415 as sold by Macy's department store That was most of the interesting stuff from the show... I'm heading of for a winter holiday for a week, but when I'm back will add shots from Intrepid, Oshkosh (museum, not the show) and Chicago Science and Industry museum, as well as a couple of the planes I caught.

Great pics Zaphod, Teterboro is a great place to visit even when there isn't an air show on. I did a Falcon 900 course there at Flightsafety a few years back, and would always nip up the road to signature at lunch time to enjoy the free coffee and the great viewing spots for corporate jets. I don't know where the bus dropped you off, but if it was on the Moonachie Ave side, there is a building there just off the end of 19 with a Challenger sized repair in its brick wall! A great place as I said, and so close to NYC on the NJ side of the Hudson.

Very cool Zaphod; great pictures. I've met that C-54 before during the anniversary of the Berlin Airlift commemorations in the 1990s. On board at the time I was, was the original 'Candy Bomber' Gail Halvorsen, who told us about how he used to throw bags of sweets out the window of his C-54 as he flew on apporach into Tempelhof. The Russian authorities told the Americans to stop doing it, which prompted his commanding officer to give him a dressing down, but then to state that since the Russians had said to stop it, to keep doing it! So for a period, every C-54 that flew into Tempelhof was dropping candy by parachute!

The day after the airshow I explored midtown Manhattan and got to the Intrepid aircraft carrier. An amazing place with some very nice aircraft. Getting to look through a B-17 and Concorde in two days was pretty cool. Intrepid Carrier A12 Blackbird Kfir Grumman lineup Concorde Flight Deck I liked this notice Harrier Avenger A4 Skyhawk

After New York I flew to Milwaukee on a Canadair 100 and caught up with my works office. One lunch time we went to the Milwaukee Auto Museum nearby in Hartford. Hartford was the home of Kissel Cars in the 20's until the depression. Amelia Earhart had a Kissel known as Gold Bug. The museum has a couple of hundred of Kissel's and even a 250 ton steam engine out the back! One plane on display was a Taylor Monoplane.

Very nice, Zaphod, good to see the Intrepid open again. The A-12 is an awesome looking machine from any angle.
