Very cool indeed! Great video footage from a number of perspectives. Love it.

Yes , that is the "projects " page ( its been awhile since its been updated ) from " Marlborough Associated Modellers " { MAMS ) . The club incorporates model engineers ( mostly steam trains ) , a boating section ( anything that floats ) and an aero section ( of which Carl is leader ) . The club is based at Brayshaw park ( where the engineers have a track and the boat guys have a pond , but us aero guys use a field out of town .
In the video you can see the Ventura operating off a gravel strip , but we no longer use that , instead we use the mown strip in the neighbouring paddock you can see in the video .
The Ventura that Carl built is a very nice model , but I think the Lanc he had was even better ( a model of the one with the duck nose art , cant quite remember what it was called ) . It sadly didnt do too many flights before an unexpected electrical issue resulted in its demise .
Carl is now using a plane called a " Giant Ugly Stick " to prepare himself for large scale and multi cylinder operation for his current project . ( At least thats why I think he got it ) .

Where is that airstrip Grant? It's a nice spot. Its at Tuamarina , almost directly North from Omaka ( towards Picton ) but just over the Wairau river ( which is the river in the video) . We are fortunate that its just outside controlled airspace ( so we dont have to notify Woodbourne everytime anyone flies there ( we once had too ) , but also we have been able to get an official CAA " hazard " zone established . This means we can fly to 1000ft instead of the normal legal limit of 400ft for rc models ( thats good for the glider guys ). It really is a nice spot , but it does get a bit of the North winds coming down the valley from Picton direction at this time of year ( a cross wind on our main strip ) , but is close enough to the hills to be a little sheltered from Marlboroughs infamous Norwesterlies .

Ah right, yes I know (vaguely) where Tuamarina is. I recently interviewed a Cambridge airman who started the war in the Army, and was based at Tuamarina with a battery of artillery pieces, sitting there awaiting the arrival of the enemy.
