Given ZK-CIJ was imported in 1964 the pic was possibly taken soon after. Perhaps the registrations of the other PA28 may indicate something also. I remember seeing a pic of a very impressive line up but have a feeling it may have been taken when an even newer batch arrived. 50 years later and much of that backdrop is very much changed. I am sure it may bring back memories for a few here. www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=669311356&permanent=0I would think the seller may appreciate the publicity. Oh.. and PS What great looking machines

The Piper at the rear isn't a 140 is it? Yes an aircraft I'm very familiar with having done all my training on the 140, bit sad the club has only one operational now. (Must mean I'm getting into historic aircraft just by looking at my logbook!)

My laptop is not up to this. What are the registrations ? I would be guessing CIK and BZB and I can't make the fourth out at all. I think it has to be similar to a 140 though, if BZB is there then that is a 160 anyway.

The lead aircraft is ZK-CIJ, then CIK, then BZB, I cannot tell what the back aircraft's rego is, looks like ZK-C-something.

The CAC Cherokee-based team used to take out the formation flying award quite often at the RNZAC annual competitions.

Was not BZB of the original Cherokees, a 150 in fact? They were normally referred to when new simply as PA-28s or Cherokees as that was the only local model for a while, without any need to differentiate or state the horse power - a bit different in later years when there were oodles of variations. David D No BZB is a factory 160. It is in fact so old that it is before they even thought of putting a 150 or 140 in the Pa28

I was wondering if you were lurking Mit. I was expecting to see your name on the Trademe auction..
Perhaps ChCh of 50 years ago doesn't mean so much to you. This thread hasn't even touched on the backdrop yet..

I can't even remember what the Hospital looked like 30 years ago... is that the nurses home to the left that was condemned after the earthquakes?

Backdrop is the Public Hospital, Nurses' Home (large light coloured building below BZB) and the corner of South Hagley Park (Main hopital building directly under CIK), with the Museum and Christ's College visible above CIK. The boat sheds seem to be hidden in the trees. View is looking more or less north. David D

Looks like the Cherokee 160C colour scheme for the last in line. Has spats and is that an air scoop and Louvre just above the nose wheel ? Might I suggest either ZK-CIM (joined the CAC 06-65) or ZK-CNV (02-67). Long shadows in the park suggests a late evening mission - little traffic about (maybe weekend !). Looks like the same (background) table top that I use. That's all you get for my two cents.
