Hi all, my teenage son is wanting to pursue a career in the aviation industry but I dont think the flying thing is for him. He's seen some info over here about becoming an Air Traffic Controller and is giving this some serious consideration. He'd like to do it here in Oz, but would go home to NZ for it if that was another option.
So questions I have are: Hows the industry these days? I have heard some grumblings over the net about conditions of work etc, and wondered what the turnover of staff would be like as a result. It looks pretty high stress? Also, if qualified in one country how difficult to swap over to another country? We've read the diploma course offered by Airservices here is internationally recognised, but wonder if thats just their slant on things.
Any ATC staff here (civil/military) could enlighten us? Is it a career choice thats worth pursuing? He's still got a couple of years up his sleeve but theyre really pushing kids at school to have a clear direction on careers by Year 10 or 11. Me? I didnt have a clue what I was doing by the time I finished 6th form, think it took about 20 years to figure that out!
