Herewith, one for the 'film buffs' in our midst.
Those of us of a 'certain age' will remember the Sunday afternoon TV time-slot 'Cinema Parade' in which various British and American movies made their TV-debuts in New Zealand. Inevitably several of these were WWII-themed, and included 'The Dambusters' (Lancasters) and 'Angels One Five' (Hurricanes) amongst their offerings.
Because it contained my favourite aircraft (the P-40), one in particular movie has always interested me, primarily because I only saw the last minute or so of it (due to circumstances totally beyond my control) , followed by the credits.
What little I saw (and this was sometime around 1965-1966) seemed to indicate that the movie was an American one. It was evidently about a USAAC unit, that had apparently formed in the US and was posted to the Pacific Theatre.
The little bit of the movie I saw showed two or three P-40's (E-series or later, but not N-25's) landing on a PSP strip evidently 'somewhere in the Pacific' - as evidenced by the Palm Trees waving in the background (although no-doubt it was actually somewhere in California or Florida). The aircraft are landing from right to left and AWAY from the photographer, before disappearing off screen.
Unfortunately that was all that I saw, and, due to the limitations of early TV, the image on the screen was, of course only black and white. Naturally, there was no title shown in the credits!!! I have since tried to locate this film through a variety of forums and books, but have always drawn a blank. It is not the John Wayne classic 'Flying Tigers'.
My question is therefore, given the very small amount of information I have provided, what was the title of the movie?
My apologies for the paucity of information, but if someone within the membership can actually tell me the title of the film I saw, it would be appreciated. I might even be able to see it it in its entirety (at last - but only for the 'Kitty's).
Thanks in advance.
