Just just about to hit the "Buy Now" button on the Mossie, but then I saw that you can get a Mitchell and Mustang with change left over... I'm so confused now about relative values of warbirds I'll just leave them all to someone else I think.
(good luck though to Glyn finding someone with real money to invest in getting a second Mossie airborne)

Please no Raymond. Make a decent movie instead of those two pieces of crap.

Heir Baron. As I have spoken to the powers that be.... I feel confident that I have/will secure a down payment on said aircraft.( after this weekend) Once the appropriate funds have been transfered into my account. I would be very happy in taking forum members for a "little" tiki tour in said aircraft once airworthy. Yours truely. Pull the other one, Bla Bla. DFC,DSO,VC,VD,and Bar.etc......

Yes and Sir P.J. could permanently base it at Hood... even offer cheap trips to ex-Fighter types who are LotR's fans (tho I shan't mention my thoughts about The Hobbit!)

May I suggest a film about the Amiens raid?

I know I started this by suggesting Sir Peter could buy this aircraft, as he is the only NZ aviation enthusiast wealthy enough to fund this I could think of off the top of my head, but listing movies he could make/remake with it is putting the cart before the horse...........

There are loads of aviation minded tycoons out there that could buy and finish this aircraft to keep it in New Zealand. Sir Peter Jackson is not the only aircraft collector with money in this country.
The key thing is finding someone with the money AND the desire to part with said money for such a project.

And what about the Tempest as well...

While I'd love to see an airworthy Tempest, I think a genuine ex-RNZAF Mosquito has more significance to NZ aviation than a Tempest II....

May I suggest a film about the Amiens raid? Yes!!! It's a great film idea..secret service, dastardly Gestapo, movie star hero wing commander who sacrificed himself for the cause and an enduring mystery.. ..too many dud remakes and books converted into film.. ..make something original Sir Peter

While I'd love to see an airworthy Tempest, I think a genuine ex-RNZAF Mosquito has more significance to NZ aviation than a Tempest II.... jp - I wasn't intending to demean the thought or value of the particular Mosquito in question - or any Mosquito for that matter, I was saddened by the fact that another similar situation exists with Eric Hertz passing and leaving the ownership of another iconic plane in a similar situation needing a financier too.
I don't believe the Tempest II ever fought actively in WWII as the Typhoon or Tempest V did. Although I believe they were still building Mosquitos after the war ended as well.
There are probably other planes in workshops in NZ also in need of benefactors to allow further progress, or, as the case of the Mosquito in question, to be able to cover the costs already incurred to reach the stage it is at.

Suthg - I didn't take exception to the post about the Tempest - or intend to imply that there aren't plenty of other worthwhile projects that need funding. The reason I highlighted the Mosquito is its NZ provenance - this forum is full of comment lamenting our aviation heritage disappearing overseas - ex Motat Corsair, various P-40's, Chino's Dauntless, etc., often due to lack of foresight when there is an opportunity to do something about it. Another obvious example is John Smith's Mosquito - unless he already has made arrangements for its eventual disposal, sooner of later it will appear on the market, and in all likelihood disappear overseas to be restored as a generic MK VI... imagine how much cooler this would be in a conserved (rather than restored) original condition sitting in the atrium of the RNZAF museum - but plans and arrangements need to be sooner, rather than later.....
On a completely different note, seeing as the film making/remaking topic keeps coming up - why are we panning old movies like 633 Squadron so much? Admittedly, the acting and special effects are a dismal, but at least a lot of the flying is real.... To me, the original Dam Busters is superb - real Lancasters, low level flying - Peter Jackson's version will have better effects, but the flying will all be CGI....
Apologies for the novel.......

R. R. Tolkien, I would argue that EVERYTHING Sir Peter has done is original!

I am assuming, given I've never had the pleasure of meeting the man, that Glynn has reached the point in life when he needs to have less stress in it and that the asking price is his retirement fund, and good on him! It seems also highly likely that the cost to total restoration to flying status will be at least double the asking price, plus a bit, so whoever funds it is looking at an outlay of around $7-10 million or so. Peter Jackson has that sort of dosh, but is he relly interested enough to spend it? Who knows, so we're back in the realms of fantasy again.
I've been around airfields, aircraft, and air displays for a very long time, and while I had , in another life, seen a Mosquito display, nothing, but nothing else moved me more than watching and listening to "our" Mosqito that wonderful , brilliant day at Ardmore, then again at WOW.
So I want to see it again and while my glass is always half-full,I'll believe it when I see it!
