Today marks nine years since I created the Wings Over New Zealand Aviation Forum, as an offshoot of my Wings over Cambridge website at www.cambridgeairforce.org.nzWhat an awesome place this forum has become thanks to all the aviators, restorers and ground crew, photographers and enthusiasts and others who have made it such a wonderful resource for information and discussion. Cheers everyone!

Oh by the way, tonight Bruce Cooke and I will be guest speakers at the Royal Aeronautical Society Hamilton Branch, and while Bruce is to speak about his very interesting Avian Adventurer aeroplane, I am the 'warm up' act talking about Wings Over Cambridge, the Wings Over New Zealand Forum and the Wings Over New Zealand Show. A nice way to mark the 9th anniversary I guess.

Congratulations every forumite. 9 years of our industrious leader putting up with us, sometimes getting wowed with exciting information and images and sometimes, "common guys, put it in the right thread", but I am sure he has enjoyed most days. As with most of us I have learnt new things and seen some awe inspiring images too and will hope to see more.
I bow to our great leader

It's all Al Marshall's fault. If he hadn't decided to reactivate a particular Bristol Freighter, I wouldn't have read about it in a newspaper, then used Google to search for more information, with that leading me to this forum, resulting in me wasting many, many enjoyable hours since then when I could have been doing other things. Well, anyway, that's my excuse for being here....

but I am sure he has enjoyed most days. Yes, you're right - I have learned so much from the forum, and also made hundreds of great new friends over the past nine years. I do enjoy it a lot. I noticed today too that the membership surpassed 3,500 members this week too. Another amazing milestone.

The forum was around and going strong before Al started restoring the Bristol, but I fully admit that thread brought a lot of people here, and thankfully many of them stayed.

Beagle,
"I bow to our great leader."
At least you didn't refer to him as our Dear Leader, thank goodness. I don't think Dave would be too keen on adopting the appropriate hair style to go with that title!

I'm not great Beagle. It's just my beer gut that gives that impression.

I was bludgeoned into it. Thankfully. and the wrong people were sent packing. I take it you don't actually mean that. "The people who were the wrong sort were sent packing".

Well done Dave. May it last another 9 years at least. I have just checked my profile only to find out I have been a member for 4 and 1/2 years. I don't know where the time has gone or how I found out about the forum but I have enjoyed it immensely and have learn't a lot. Thanks a million
