That is a shock to see and I presume it was in sparkling condition like ours (Ashburton Aviation Museum) when delivered and if I recall correctly they got an engine with theirs!

No doubt waiting for the concrete mixer to fill up that cockpit, without seats i assume it will be sitting on its ass. And mrjohn, i dont really think you guys can talk, you threw the tailpipe away on yours because you couldnt be bothered to fit it!

It is obvious from this thread so far that the "history" of this particular airframe is not well known. This is not a complete aircraft and was subject to a landing incident in 2000, it is not sitting on it's wheels because it does not have any. Also missing are seats, pretty well all cockpit components, intakes, engine, main and nose UC, most of the avionics, flaps, gear doors and numerous other items. All of the control rods had been removed as well as most of the bellcranks these are still in a large box along with a range of other kitset items. To add to this the aircraft had been sealed for ? years in plywood boxes and pretty well all of the magnesium components are showing signs of advanced corrosion. It is hard to see the benign Wanaka atmosphere being any more unkind to it than it current storage while I am not fully comfortable with aircraft on poles this out of the entire fleet is the best cndidate.

Whack it into a playground and let the kids have a play?

A bit of a different story than the demands for the 'loan' Skyhawks having to be housed inside!. Maybe they should swap it with Pahiatua for the Harvard?.
