A part of Auckland Airport's runaway was temporarily closed this morning after a security issue involving an Air New Zealand flight.
The runway was shut as a precaution but is now back up and running.
It's not known what the possible security issue was or how long the runaway was closed.

Bomb Threat.
Lady turns up late for her flight (which has recently departed), throws a spaz in the terminal and uses the B word in her rant. Aircraft is advised of threat and returns to AKL. ATC closes airport to arrivals whilst emergency underway.
Aircraft searched and cleared to continue operations. I assume the lady will be answering questions for a while.

Some strange people out there, and many without any sense, the classic many years only weeks after 9/11 boarded a flight and said had a bomb, a 41 year old - what was in that brain case, the other recent was that hi-jack attempt by a women ... makes you wonder.

I was flying at the time and control were so busy with the situation dealing with holds and potential diversions that we we not allowed into controlled airspace. We orbited around for a while then dropped the tandems low, so it cost us. The flight involved turned around and returned to Auckland, as was mentioned. The Link flight was on the ground here at KK for 45 minutes longer than it should have been. Did any flights actually end up diverting or did they just circle around wasting time and money? The widespread consequences of this woman's selfish behaviour were far greater than the news story suggests, I think.

it is good to see the media has named and shamed the stupid moo. Flight grounded by bomb threat, court toldBy Brendan Manning, Jimmy Ellingham Updated12:37 PM Monday May 5, 2014 Air New Zealand Ltd... Auckland International Airport Ltd Aviation A woman who missed her Auckland to Napier flight caused the plane to turn back when she claimed to have a bomb, it is alleged. Christine Hawea, 57, is accused of making the claim to Air New Zealand staff last Thursday when she arrived late at Auckland Airport's domestic terminal. "Yeah, I got a bomb, do you want to look at it?'' the East Tamaki woman allegedly said. Hawea appeared in the Manukau District Court today charged with communicating false information. Laid under the Civil Aviation Act, the charge carries a maximum penalty of one month in jail. Hawea did not enter a plea and will be back in court last this month. Last week an Air NZ spokeswoman said the Air Nelson Q300 aircraft was in the air when the alleged threat was made. It returned to Auckland as a precaution before it was cleared by aviation security to return to Napier. It finally landed 2 1/2 hours behind schedule at 2.15pm, the spokeswoman said. No other flights were delayed. An Auckland Airport spokesman said the airport's runway was closed between 11.05am and 11.35am following the "possible security threat''. A 15-year-old schoolgirl on the flight told the Hawke's Bay Today she was "freaked out'' by the about turn. "The air hostess was looking really distressed and were flying much lower than usual. It was pretty weird.'' - APNZ www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11249769

The input from the 15 year old school girl, who I see is not named, was really valuable input to the story - not.
Don't we have anti-terror laws in this country to charge this idiot under? I suppose the police are scared to use them after they backfired on them in the Urewera terrorist raids?

'No plea' is a fair enough call. Gives everyone a chance to determine the true financial cost of her actions.
I would be happy for the courts to do a deal with her, - if she is found guilty and comes up for sentencing.
Do your month inside.... or pay reimbursement of 'real' expenses. I think she would want to choose the month, a little over a week in reality anyway probably. The fine would be in the tens of thousands I suspect.
Someone I know very well was offered a similar deal.. A completely different offence mind you. Six months imprisonment or pay 30,000 Tanzanian shilling fine. 180 nights in an African cell or USD60. While 35 cents a night may sound like cheap accommodation you may want to pass on that one. The food wasn't much anyway..... oh and it was room share also, 9 buddies.

Hang on a minute...... I can totally understand the airport being closed but why did they turn the aircraft back? She was late, she wasn't on it, there's no mention that she had checked in luggage therefore there was no chance of there being a bomb on it. If i was travelling on the plane I'd be mighty pissed off at it being turned back. Sounds like an overreaction to me.
Unless I'm missing something......

Its due to idiots like these people that have broken it down for the aircraft/aviation oriented, barb wire fencing, loss of the viewing platforms and the ability to get flight with the aircrew and have a good chin wag.
I did get a flight back from KL to Auckland on MAS 777 just after it was introduce, given a mid row seat, I always ask for window, then asked if I could get up in the cockpit, 11 hour flight, I was up there for 6 hours, So maybe Guantanamo bay would be the best place to put it this person for 10 years maybe!
PS: Going through customs at Auckland after a ripper bumpy ride in, some of the flight crew (pretty little things) come up to me and asked how that was, both pilot looked over and gave them the Thumbs up, one off my most memorable flights.

" no other flights were delayed " is blatantly untrue.
