Just a few questions to those who have recently started receiving their military pension. Did which ever company is now looking after it contact you and confirm amount and bank account and that was it or was there more formalities to go through.

Mine started 6 years ago, and all I did was contact GSF, confirm my address and bank details - end of story.

Depending on what each person took as a lump sum at year 20 and at what age they wanted it to start, the weekly amount would vary a bit. Take it, it's not too much over $500 for most of us...

I got out before lump sums were an option and have been getting it since 1985, currently is worth around $1100 every 4 weeks, very handy!

I've drawn over $400,000-00 out of that fund in the last 30 years or so! $300 a week comes in very handy I can tell you!

Contact Datacom, who run the Super fund, at gsf@datacom.co.nz.
They are pretty good at helping. Quote your service no and date of discharge, and your GSF reference if you know it.
I emailed them about a fortnight before mine was due to start, and provided address, bank details and it was all done.
The payments allowed me to retire from full time work at age 60. My wife and I had sufficient investment income to keep me in the manner to which I became very quickly accustomed.
Since, then I have picked up casual contracts with Census, Elections, Cricket World Cup, plus some presentation work for a young driver education programme.
Now at the vintage of 66, we have a comfortable lifestyle.
So it does work out.
