Just received my issue of Classic Wings. They are celebrating their 20th Anniversary (I think I bought ever single one except the first one!)and they are certainly one of the best magazines covering aviation history and certainly (at least for me) the best covering new Zealand and Australia. I may have missed this little bit of news somehow but in this issue but the FW190 based at Omaka as part of the Chariots of Fire collection (along with the nearly finished MKXIV Spitfire and Sopwith Pup) is about to get a buddy in the shape of a genuine BF109G. This has been for sale for a while and is currently in Australia. I wonder where she will be restored. There are a few firms that have rebuilt the 109 in the US and UK. Dare we hope that she will come here for restoration? Dave, polish up your microphone and get interviewing the COF owner for the WONZ Show! Oh and Graham Orphan he would be a good one too!

Baz, you got your Roman numerals muddled, should be a Mk XIV, not a XVI

Just had an update on the 109 from a reliable source. Yes the 109 is coming here but is not the Chariots of Fire collection wbo has bought it. The good news is the owner is an aircraft engineer who plans to rebuild it himself here in New Zealand. Exciting times ahead it seems!

Wow incredible news what a huge undertaking though! I admire the their vision and commitment and wish them all the best. Any hint if we are talking about a static or flyable restoration??

The 109 fuselage construction is made up of alloy sheet formed on a mould (pressed originally?)into the fuselage shape (in a lengthways nose to tail direction) in various sections reducing in size and in left and right "halves".. And yes I understand it is going to be a flyer.

so forming rather than stretching? (thats how this LAME would see it) If you look here you will see they are formed, not stretched,if they were stretched the skin would end up being thinner(not good!) www.leichtbau-gmbh.de/blechverformung2.htm

A G-2, interesting! The RAF Museum's one which flew in the early 90s was/is a G-2.

Hey guys . Yes I have bought a BF-109 G2 and also 2 BF-109 f4s that are all getting restored to flying and at least one will be based at Omaka . There maybe some other interesting projects in the pipeline aswell . All are Russian recovered aircraft . So fun times ahead .
