Haha, the NZ Herald and the Dom Post. You have to wonder how sales are going for them this month, they must be seeing the writing on the wall. I am quickly putting TV One news into the same category now, I am struggling to see anything newsworthy, or approaching accurate, in much of this tabloid journalism these days. If you can't trust the articles then why bother ?
I have had a much better life since actively ignoring John Campbell for the past two years, what a doom and gloom merchant that character is.
I think I will miss Paul Henry at nights though, at least he didn't pretend he was a news reporter....

from Fairfax NZ....Report reveals details of Gerry Brownlee airport incidentBy MICHAEL HAYWARD | 9:03PM - Tuesday, 25 October 2016A Civil Aviation Authority report revealed former transport minister Gerry Brownlee had “plenty of time” to go through security without missing his flight in 2014. — Photograph: Cameron Burnell/Fairfax NZ.IT COULD have taken former transport minister Gerry Brownlee less than two minutes to go through security rather than skipping the screening at Christchurch Airport, a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) report reveals.
The report, by investigating officer Diane Cooze, has been released on orders of the Office of the Ombudsman, which responded to a complaint about parts of the document being withheld.
Brownlee and two unnamed ministerial aides took an unauthorised shortcut into a secure gate lounge after arriving late for a flight on the morning of 24th July 2014. They also did not have boarding passes, which are required for the area.
The report said Brownlee had “plenty of time” to go through security correctly and still catch the flight, as a review of screening times that day showed the process took less than two minutes per passenger.
The group had entered the security controlled area through a manned exit door. An airport staff member opened the door intending to tell Brownlee he could not enter that way.
The report said the staff member recalled Brownlee “stated words along the lines of ‘sorry to do this to you but we're in a hell of a hurry’ before walking off to the departure gates”.
The staff member was so “dumbfounded” he did not tell Brownlee he had to go back through security, but radioed his supervisor immediately afterwards.
After bypassing security, Brownlee purchased gum and a can of soft drink from an airport bookstore before going to the departure lounge near his gate, where he got a boarding pass.
The report said Brownlee's presence and conduct would have “had the affect of potentially exerting a degree of undue influence, whether intended or not” on the staff member.
Both the aides and Brownlee recalled the staff member being asked if they could enter that way, to which he responded “yes sure” or words to that effect.
The report said the evidence supports “consent to enter was not freely given” and it was not reasonable to imply it was given the circumstances.
Saying the staff member had consented did not necessarily “demonstrate acknowledgement of the seriousness of their actions” or show they had learned from the event, the report said.
Brownlee was fined $2,000 and given a formal letter of warning for the incident in November 2014. The two aides were also given warnings.
He attempted to resign immediately after the incident, but it was not accepted by Prime Minister John Key.
At the time, Brownlee publicly apologised for the incident. He said he acted “without thought” and put staff in “a compromised position”.__________________________________________________________________________ Read more on this topic:

from the HERALD on SUNDAY....A dishonourable mentionThe Honourable Minister's behaviour was less than honourable.By RODNEY HIDE | 5:00AM - Sunday, October 30, 2016Gerry Brownlee. — Photograph: Jason Oxenham.NEW INFORMATION shows Gerry Brownlee's explanations for his 2014 “airport incident” were — to borrow Prime Minister John Key's word — “suboptimal”.
Brownlee's excuse for his behaviour, as lame as it was, was not accurate.
His excuse-making dragged his staff into backing his fake story, falsely dobbed in airport security and put the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in the tough spot of contradicting their own Minister.
The Honourable Minister's behaviour was less than honourable.
The new information came to light through the Ombudsman's ordering the Civil Aviation Authority to release previously withheld sections of its report into the incident. To recap, Brownlee — along with two staffers — dodged airport security by having a security staff member open the exit-only door at the Koru Club.
Brownlee explained at the time: “My words were: ‘We're in a hurry to get on the plane. Can we shoot through here?’ In the end he let us through, but it was all my fault, no one else's.”
It was certainly Brownlee's fault but we now know the CAA found their Minister's version of events to be not true. Brownlee was in no such hurry.
Indeed, on gaining access to the secure area he promptly sped not to his plane but to the tuck shop.
There was no great rush. And no great queue. At the time security staff were clearing passengers within two minutes.
And so, too, for his claim that security had reluctantly let him through.
Security opened the door only to explain to Brownlee he could not enter and would have to proceed to the security screening area. There was no invitation, reluctant or otherwise.
Brownlee and his staffers simply barged through.
The staff member looked on “dumbfounded”, no doubt reluctant to drop his minister to the ground.
Gate-gate is a small incident in the scheme of things but a great insight into the minister's character.
To my mind, this shows a man ready to make up a story to excuse his bad behaviour and to risk the jobs of others to save his own.__________________________________________________________________________ Read more on this topic:
