While building 486 Sqn Tempest Mk V I spotted a Hasegawa Spitfire Mk VI 616 Sqn on Trademe and could not resist the opportunity to build one, having read much about Hasegawa Spitfire's apparent shortcomings. I had difficulty finding any of these. The fuselage is maybe 1mm shorter than my Special Hobby Mk Vc, the cockpit serviceably detailed, the kit includes all wingtip options, 3 props and an excellent set of decals. My Tempest V client had provided me with Victory Productions "Spitfire, Empire Aces" decals for a couple of upcoming Mk IX builds. The set has markings for 41 yes forty one Spitfires including a Mk Vb from 616 Sqn flown by Colin Gray during his time with them - Wikipedia says - "He was promoted to flight lieutenant in August 1941[13] and the following month was awarded a Bar to his DFC. The same month, he was posted to No. 616 Squadron to serve as its commander until February 1942, at which time he took up a staff posting at 9 Group". Hasegawa's Mk VI is their Mk Vb Spitfire with one extra sprue of VI parts. I went for the Vb option. The Victory Decals set contains markings for five or six aircraft flown by Gray during WW2 so expect to see more from me in future, including the Mk IXc commission. Regards, Wally.

Gotta love a Mk.Vb, especially in that scheme! Nice work, Wally.
