That's good news indeed, but not from the AU Govt though, Qantas and Virgin Australia were both prepared to be generous benefactors as well as the public swell of donations.

It is no surprise at all really. The Aussie Government are already well known at not being interested in giving veterans flights to places - they only took one Bomber Command veteran from each state (6 people) to the opening of the Bomber Command Memorial in London, whereas New Zealand sent a planeload.
