Hi,
Interested in finding out any information on New Zealander F/Lt William Anstey DFC RNZAF. He served with both 218 & 70 Squadrons between 1938/42.
Would like to discover how many op's he completed with 70 before screened. I am aware that his total was something like 70 in total with 218 & 70 Squadron. However this differs from other sources. I have BSD by G/Cp Hanson.
TIA
Steve

What does "screened" mean?

Steve,
His log book (or possibly a copy of it) is held by the Air Force Museum of New Zealand (File Box 57).

Dave , screened meant that they were stood down from operations. Usually because they had already done enough ops , sometimes because of a medical condition or injury , or were a evader/escaper who couldnt continue to fly over Europe in case of recapture.

I have a copy of it, starts December 1939, stops April 1941. It is what William did after that dates I am trying to discover.
Thanks, for the email. Much appreciated mate.
Regards
Steve

Have you looked into the ORB's for the squadron?

I am William Ian Anstey's son. My father died some years ago. I have his logbook which I think is the original. What are you looking for?

I am the 218 Squadron Association and author of three books on the squadron. I am in the process of writing a book on the exploits of the squadron from 1936 up until 1941. Your father was a key member of the squadron during this period, he and another New Zealander Ian Richmond DFC left a legacy on the squadron that was hard to match. My squadron web site can be found at 218squadron.wordpress.com Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Steve
