Felicity Roworth sent me this link to a page by ex-RNZAF pilot Pete Tremayne and there's a bit on the Antarctic training he did in 1959 with the Beaver in the mountains. www.highsierrakiwi.com/index.html

Great link and series of photo's The early photo of the C-124s are at Harewood, the Globemasters were based there whilst at that time the Neptunes and LC-47s and helo's were based at Wigram, checking the tail markings the original C-124s come in with the then known M.A.T.S rather the CONTINENTAL at that stage were that was changed in the mid 1960s or least the aircraft that arrived later, still recall them parked out along the Avonhead Rd boundary before they left for ever around 1970/71 - the artwork below was the a drawing I did on the introduction of the C-124 over Wigram in 1957.

Great site: Also look at more aviation material at: www.dudesdownunder.com/Covers the Antarctic era, plus Peter's aviation career - some great photos along the way.

At the time the Globemasters were introduced to Operation Deep Freeze, a distant relative on mums side was commander of M.A.T.S, Gen Lemay, I think mum met him during the war, he was visiting a few of the Scottish LeMays (French Origen)
