All, FYI we have 2 flights of 3 x UH-1H's this afternoon over the Auckland waterfront. Great to hear the "Thuk Thuk" again.

3x Iroquois out at Whenuapai now, came up for a Reunion and farewell. Got out the in time to see the 3 return, 11,16 and 14. Seem to be the same 3 doing the tour. I am very pleased to have got some pictures especially as 11 flew down the road so the sun was in the right position. Now just need to remember where my account is to put them on line, might have to go to facebook perhaps.

Three Iroquois flew right over my house earlier today probably heading to Ohakea out of Whenuapai. I think there was almost a tear in my eye as the passed overhead , knowing that it probably would be the last time I would see them in the air. I was lucky enough to get a ride in 07 at Masterton a few years ago. Gone but not forgotten.

Would be nice to see them in Palmerston North. I haven't seen or heard any around the place for months.

All is made clear now. The trio transitted Central Plateau airspace the 17th. Unmistakable "Wokka-wokka-wokka" from about 2 mi out.
Farewell, thou good and faithful servant.

Had a pair over Palmerston North today. They will be missed.
Will always remember the 19 ship flypast they did a few years ago. 15 Iroquois and 5 Sioux definitely made some noise.

That's a great old photo of '01 there. I've never seen a photo of a crewman in the old blue-grey flying suits before. I wonder when the familiar green zoombags were introduced?

They were probably what we called 'Wet Drill'helmets, for training use only and for use in water if need be. Wet Drill equipment - though perfectly serviceable and was checked and maintained like regular equipment - was usually older stuff and would never be used operationally again, purely for training. The colour would be for identification for sure, but not just when in use, such as when a guy was being winched, but also so it did not get issued from the section to an operational unit by accident.
