The mrs an I have always said we would love to do a bit of travel, but as we all know, things get in the way but we are looking at going somewhere before the end of the year, maybe sep/oct
I'm not looking for a week sitting on a beach in the islands, but she is into her animals etc and we love Asian food, so I am thinking Singapore would be great and to come back thru Melbourne where her brother and his family are.
Was thinking it would be easy just getting a direct flight from here in chch, but had a thought just before, don't they bring an A380 into Auckland. We could get one of those very cheap night flights to AK, then fly out the next day
Either that or go direct and they probably do an A380 from sing to mel
or is something like Hawaii an another option

Singapore is a good hub for Asia but is a little too much Western. Indeed one of the guys here headed off there on Saturday and we said it is much like Auckland, but with a few more Asians. It is expensive also, especially compared to some of the nearby countries. For the $100 or so extra I wouldn't hesitate in taking in Vietnam. A few days there would soon repay the difference in the airfares. I budget $25 per day for Vietnam and that included food, drinks and travel as well as the accommodation. I travel light though and am not into the high-life though obviously. You may be a little too young to appreciate the war history though
