It doesn't seem that long ago bit 19 years ago today the fantastic Lockheed Hudson NZ2013 was placed on public display for the first time at the RNZAF Museum on the 17th of July 1996, following its restoration.

Dave, In the 1980s I missed buying that machine by about three days from the property down south. Wandered all around and through it as the owner was nowhere to be found. If I remember correctly he may have been a truck or tourist coach driver. Now very glad that I missed it and it is preserved for all to see in NZ.

So am I, Pete! Haha.
I think he worked for NZ Railways, from memory. I believe it was a huge fundraising effort by the Air Training Corps, the RNZAF Association and the Friends of the RNZAF Museum to get the cash together to purchase and transport it to the Museum. A wonderful team effort, and a fantastic restoration by F/Sgt Alan Woodley and his team at the time.

Amazing restoration. I see they posted some pictures of the Oxfords progress. What is next on their list?

Do they have the wings for the PBY? That one that was destroyed in the States a few weeks ago could be a good donor? Is the Seasprite back in one piece?

Wow, 19 years! Theres a bit of history for me, I remember (hopefully correctly) in late '87 going out to the back of our farm in Waikanae with a bunch from Shelly Bay to retrieve bits from ZK-AKX which crashed there in '49. Apparently a few of those bits were used for the resto of NZ2013, I do remember the Huey taking out a few sling loads of stuff, including the tailplane.
History for me, as Dad was involved with the locating of the plane and recovery of bodies. We kept a fair bit of memorabilia from that (newspaper clippings etc) and even had the door hanging up in our woolshed for many years until it disappeared....
Great to see the end result is still looking fantastic! Well done those craftsmen!
