Sorry to be the bearer of unwelcome tidings, but unfortunately it is now known that P-40Ks of this group were painted in a NZ-applied green and blue-grey scheme (Stores ref. 33B/N118), and certainly not brown! The incorrect scheme has long been publicised in NZ and overseas publications, based on lack of knowledge, and a general assumption that RNZAF slavishly followed RAF dictums in all matters of colours and camouflage (only partially true!) I have been attempting to inform the modelling world on this story for about ten years, particularly on this forum, but only with mixed success. David D

If it's not to much of hassle, may I ask if you know of any online resources where I can read up some more about this, the RNZAF P-40K's paint scheme? It's something I 'd like to know more about however when I search online all I find is the Green/Brown scheme shown here. Cheers, HB

Nice work Harry! It brings to mind NZ3009's old paint scheme.

Nice work Harry, the colours aside it's a beauty. Looks to be a good kit.

David D Hi David D, I recently did some research into this, driven by the comment in Darby's Book "RNZAF the First Decade", and his comment about "Desert scheme". It appears the P 40K's when they arrived were in RAF TLS (DuPont paints) like the P 40E-1's, and then the uppers surfaces painted in the NZ Green/Sea Blue grey per your comments above. (I belive Nathan at the Musuem picked your brain on this?) So in essence the colours would be NZ Green/Sea Blue Grey over Sky aka Duck Egg Blue (being a DuPont paint as applied at Curtiss) Would you agree on that last point? I understand your frustration about trying to tell the model world anything. Some People know better, been there done that!!!! Regards Alan

Hi Harry Nice RNZAF P40's. Personally IMHO RNZAF P40's are the best looking I obtained these swatches last year, Olive Drab and very faded Neutral Grey taken off an RNZAF P40 (don't know if a late model K, or an M or N) Regards Alan
