I haven't really taken a lot of notice in the past. I just put up a couple of posts then went to the home page. There were 28 people viewing, and only 2 members on line. Maybe some of the senior members may know if this is normal.

People are probably still maximising their daylight and warm evenings. They will gravitate back to their screens when they feel cold. I too have noticed thin numbers. It's not the Forum's causation; its the human factors unreliability kicking in!

Yes that is normal, a lot of people viewing are actually members but simply have not logged into their account so show as a lurker (one of the 28). Others are definitely lurkers, people who read all the time but have not created an account.
Right now the stats for the past day are: Users Online in the Last 24 Hours 6 Staff, 87 Members, 1,219 Guests.
So we get lots of lurkers for sure. A pity some more of them didn't join in and contribute to the conversation.

The numbers we're seeing of people viewing over each 24 period is about normal. Posts however have been a little thinner and I have deduced this is because of one thing, Facebook. There are now specialist groups on Facebook for every single area of NZ aviation you can imagine. While that has its merit I think it is sad that it has drawn a lot of people away from the forum, where we have more of a caring and sharing and helpful community than most of the Facebook pages. Also Facebook is dreadful for searching for older archived messages, and it also is out to make money so restricts who sees your posts unless you pay them, but the average person does not know this. Here on the forum everything is easily found in the archives and goes back to day one nearly 11 years ago.

...well I don't have a facebook account so you'll find me here virtually everyday - post or no post (usually got nothing of merit to add to the pot) Just one thing I wanna say though: "go you good thing" (to plagiarize a certain Aussie)

Thanks for that Dave. I can see how facebook attracts a lot of followers especially young people. As you say, it is a pity that a few more do not sign up. Those daily stats are very interesting.

I have noticed that in the past week or so I have been required to log back in, for whatever reason I had reverted to 'Guest'. Maybe it is just my computer but I am wondering if others are 'falling-out' as well....

Here on the forum everything is easily found in the archives and goes back to day one nearly 11 years ago. Which will mean my own tenth anniversary of signing up is around here somewhere Since I don't like being automatically logged on to any site, I tend to log on only when I post, which might explain some of the figures.

Although I'm super-active on Facebook, I also visit here every day - multiple times a day on a workday.

It is little known but these days Facebook can be used for good as well as evil. But yeah, it is mostly evil

Sorry for the obscure title Baz.Last night I noticed how many guests there were on the forum, versus the number of members that were signed in. I was asking the question if this was quite normal. As Dave said, it is a pity that a few of them did not join up and share in the the discussions.

. . . . however have been a little thinner ' ' ' Which is largely why I posted the Musée de l'air thread. I was not going to bother, then I thought that it might help keep the interest up during the quiet part of the year. A side benefit of the Facebook exodus is that most of the antagonistic muppets seem to have gone over there. We have not had a good shouting match here for quite some time.

Yes threads like your French Museum visit are always welcome Peter. And you're right, it may be slightly more quiet but it's a lotmore peaceful too.

I agree Peter , thats why I am putting up the East Cape trip as its a place a bit out of the way and there are some interesting spots of aviation which may be of interest to others. By the way at work I have a terminal preloaded with www.rnzaf.proboards.com/threads/recent that gives me quick access to the days goings on. Dave , perhaps you could put this link on your header page so vistors can quickly head to the current activity.. The NZBCA facebook page we run is almost like a news service and doesnt attempt to be in depth but it does attract a weekly viewing of 4 to 5 thousand.

That link is and always has been on the homepage, down near the bottom. There are two links, Recent Threads and Recent Posts. It is standard with the forum.

That is the only way I access, and refresh, this site. It is convenient but the only comment would be that it doesn't show the particular 'Board' quickly and easily. That doesn't worry me whatsoever....
