A few years ago, I convinced one of NZ's top builders to accept a commission (something he doesn't usually do, so I can't mention his name), to build NZ6256 in its anniversary clothes. I cannot praise this worthy gentleman's incredible workmanship highly enough!!! We started with a Hasegawa TA-4, Aviation Workshop decals, a full Aries detail set, Two Mikes Resins 150 gallon drop tanks & Escapac seats, Scale Aircraft Conversions landing gear and Eduard ladder & RBF ribbons. Two or three sets of decals later (the quality simply wasn't good enough each time), the decision was made to mask and paint instead. This turned out to be a major undertaking - and not recommended for the faint-hearted... Getting the gold just right was hard enough without adding this complication! Apparently, the Aries set was an absolutely nightmare to install, necessitating in a lot of custom fabrication to make it all fit. In fact, a tremendous amount of scratch building went into the entire project. An Eduard A4 etch set was also later included for extra cockpit detailing that was needed. The SAC landing gear ended up being discarded because none of it looked just quite right and so the Hasegawa set was modified instead. The Two Mikes tanks also ended up needed a lot of work to get right, especially the fit. The only sad part for me is that I've yet to lay eyes on it... The model is in the South Island, I'm the North Island and its just far to fragile to ship! However, some day soon, someone will be eventually make the trip and be willing to hand-carry it to its new home! Until then, these are the only photos I have of the completed project: Needless to say, I am one very happy camper - although the anticipation is killing me!

Great snapping duck bills, Horatio. That is amazing. And he masked that? He's a braver man than I, Gunga Din!
Superlative skills. An absolute craftsman.
Not surprised he's anonymous.

Hey Jono....that guy did a great job! I believe the chap who did it for you hasn't been able to enjoy it in his cabinet either for fear of dust getting on it and he has it wrapped in gladwrap and in an airtight plastic container awaiting a way to get it up.
Lol, just wish it was mine......I guess I will have to be satisfied with a 32nd one
Cheers mate Anthony

All this precision surgery that you guys do is wonderful to behold. I tried assembling a plastic aeroplane kit once as a schoolkid, but the Octopus glue just got all over my fingers and then dissolved big craters in the components wherever I touched them. Got it together in the end but it was such a bad job that it just had one ceremonial flight and crash in the garden where it was unceremoniously burned into oblivion. Mother wasn't impressed. I can thread a needle and still sew on my own buttons (taught by a little "housewife" at BES) but that is the limit of my detail work (save for my claimed expertise in Mil Spec precision soldering).

Yes, very nice. I hope it didn't set you back too much more than buying the real one...

Yes, very nice. I hope it didn't set you back too much more than buying the real one... Well... I believe I didn't pay anywhere near what it's worth - even double the final cost would've still been cheap!

Good stuff. It is just that some of the 1:1 scale jobs don't go for much. Some will say we gave the A-4's away. I know of a RC fellow with some rather large models and from some of the prices he mentioned I understand his 1:1 model is not far off the mark. Some aircraft are going cheaply at the moment.

You couldn't buy the real one now anyway because Barnsey parked it in the ocean.
